This shot of a windsurfer and an ocean liner can only mean one thing: 2017 is coming to an end, andI wanted to share some of my favorite moments of the year! This was taken in Seattle, where my daughter lives, and we went to celebrate a big event this year!

The Year Of The Eclipse!
First, 2017 was the year of the eclipse, and we were just a few of the millions who looked at it – in our case, through a Chipotle box! And it was the year I found the world’s worst ATM:

I haven’t done this before – taken a look at some of the images of the year, but here are several that capture my 2017, beginning with this guy:

Seattle Welcomes Luke!
My daughter Jessica presented the amazingly adorable Lucas Minick, AKA Luke, in March and what an adorable new grandson! Simply the happiest little boy you’ll ever meet – he joins his big sister Sydney, who turned three this year:

It was a year of wrapping things up, like my wife Alex’s show in Chicago, so we spent time making sure we enjoyed all of the coolest things Chicago has to offer, like this shot of Lakeshore drive and Lake Michigan from the top of the John Hancock building:

This is my last Chicago selfie before heading back to LA, where the imagery is more like this:

The legendary Beverly Hills Hotel is perhaps best known as the cover shot of The Eagles “Hotel California”, but it’s just down the street from out house, and I love to capture it as I drive by.
My favorite selfie on the year is the one I got with some help from Alex and her sunglasses:

It was the year we went to The Pan Am Experience, which replicates flying first class on the legendary airliner in the 60’s:

It really was the most enjoyable event of 2017 – you can see more pictures and video here:
https://johnrieber.com/2017/10/04/the-pan-am-experience-fantastic-retro-trip-to-the-70s-for-dinner-and-fashion-videos-and-photos-galore/
We also headed north by coastal highway to see a valley near Carmel where the Calla Lilly’s grow right to the edge of the Pacific Ocean:

You can see more of that adventure here:

Our friends Kareen and Chris welvomed their amazing new son Harrison in 2017, and to celebrate, we headed to New York, where I finally got to try this:

Yes, I ate at the iconic Katz’s Deli in New York, the site of that terrific orgasm scene from “When Harry Met Sally” – see the entire food adventure here:
https://johnrieber.com/2017/02/26/katzs-deli-my-first-pastrami-at-nycs-legendary-deli-when-harry-met-sally-there-great-movie-food-scenes/
Alex and I are ending 2017 in Paris, having a great adventure to say farewell to 2017 and hello to 2018 in the best way possible, with this amazing potato cake and $125 chicken!

Yes, we went to Chez L’Ami Louis last night, home of the best chicken in the world – and possibly the most expensive – but it was worth it – see this incredible meal here:
https://johnrieber.com/2013/04/20/chez-lami-louis-love-this-125-paris-chicken-garlic-potato-cake-rocks-too/
We walked off this meal at midnight through the quiet streets of the city:

We hope your New Year is everything you ant it to be – cheers!

Thanks for sharing photos John which I enjoyed. Goodbye sweet old home town Chicago and say hello to Hollywood. Your grandkids are adorable and it is a thrill to read your blog and have you follow mine. Here’s to 2018.

Thanks so much! I’ve lived in Beverly Hills for almost twenty years, so the Chicago re-direct was a short-term experience that we loved, but great to be permanently back home!

I can imagine that would have been a treat. I’ve often had the wanderlust but not always the means. Still good to be home.
