Is Anyone Else “Wanderlusting”?

There are certain days when “wanderlust” takes hold – so my new word is “wanderlusting” – an insatiable desire to explore the world!

It took me back to one of the most enchanting cities we’ve ever visited…

Time To Celebrate Barcelona’s Magical Beauty – Everywhere You Look!

I love these guys. They stand watch on top of one of Barcelona’s rooftops…when Alex and I went to Barcelona for the first time, we hung out with them, along with many of their friends:

Welcome to Anton Gaudi’s “Casa Mila” – AKA “La Pedrera”!

Barcelona’s magical “Casa MilĂ ” is popularly known as La Pedrera – meaning ‘The Quarry’. This modernist building was the last civil work designed by Catalan architect Antoni GaudĂ, built between 1906 and 1910. It is just one of Gaudi’s many amazing achievements in Barcelona!

Enter the World Of “Casa BatllĂł”!

Barcelona is a city filled with magical architecture – literally everywhere you turn, such as this wonder:

barcelona casa batllo - art building

Here is another Gaudi wonder: “Casa BatllĂł” is the result of a total restoration in 1904 of an old conventional house built in 1877. GaudĂ used typical constructive elements of the Modernisme (Catalan Art Nouveau) that include ceramics, stone and forged iron.

Here are some of the cool images we captured while touring the building:

Topped Off By Art!

The building was heavily criticized by the city during construction for its radical design…and for all of the art that lives on the rooftop!

Of course, once completed in 1906, the Barcelona City Council awarded it as one of the three best buildings of the year – and crowds line up each day to tour this unbelievable achievement.

Of course, that is just the tip of the Barcelona’s Art Iceberg – the colorful and timeless work of Anton Gaudi is everywhere you go – let’s take a quick trip to “Lizard Park!”

Barcelona Lizard

It’s probably Barcelona’s most famous park, located in a neighborhood at the edge of Barcelona’s central tourist area – an incredible wonderland of art and architecture like this:

You can spend hours walking through this park, a never ending series of amazing architecture and imagery. See our tour of this outdoor wonderland of artistry by clicking here:

And when you are in Barcelona, you must see the church that Gaudi designed – that has been under construction for more than 100 years!

The Sagrada Famiglia!

This amazing church will be finished someday, but for now, you are allowed to wander inside and see some of the amazing work already completed!

As I said, you can tour inside the cathedral, as well as climb the stairs to the roof – here are the stairs you take to the top – and some of the great art you see on the way:

And if you want to see some of the city’s most amazing art at night, then you had better put on a rain slicker!

Barcelona Magic fountain

Barcelona has a “Magic Fountain” – and it gives a public performance every night of the week! Read all about it here:

As you can see from this watery art, not all of the art in Barcelona is housed in buildings: for example, if you wander along Barcelona’s waterfront, you will see this tasty artwork:

Tasty Art!

Food as art is everywhere as well, and you will also find this type of food art – hanging Iberico hams!

Welcome to Barcelona’s Boqueira!

It’s one of the world’s most famous food markets, and you can see it here:

https://johnrieber.com/2013/06/12/barcelonas-famous-boqueira-food-stalls-tapas-hanging-ham/

That’s because Barcelona has some of the world’s best food – including their legendary Spanish Tapas!

Cal Pep amuse bouche of sardine

Some of the world’s best tapas can be found at Cal Pep, a legendary Barcelona restaurant. See some of their most amazing creations here:

As you can see, food is as much a work of art as the architecture of Barcelona.
