America’s Space Force Uniforms – Inspired By The Director Of “Showgirls?”
At a time when every day brings new shameful actions by US Government “leaders”, this is almost surreal… I woke to find this story in Deadline.com.
It begins this way:
“Among a flurry of posts this weekend, Donald Trump revealed the service dress uniform designs for his Space Force.
Without additional comment, the president shared photos and an overview of the uniforms on Truth Social, which include in their color palette “space gray” and “midnight black” as well as knee high leather boots and snazzy epaulettes. The overview indicated the ensemble was “inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Trooper uniform.”
Yes, that’s Neil Patrick Harris wearing a very “Nazi kind of uniform” in the film – which was directed by Paul Verhoeven, who also directed “Showgirls!”
Yep, Frump was influenced by the guy who made this film!
Deadline.com goes on to add:
“The admission is a bit of a shocker, not just because Trump loves winners and the critically-panned 1997 Paul Verhoeven film was a flop, but also because it was a satire of fascism.
In his review at the time, Roger Ebert noted the picture’s “quasi-fascist militarism,” while admitting that those aspects were leavened a bit by “an element of sly satire.” But, for Ebert, that was not enough. “We smile at the satirical asides, but where’s the warmth of human nature? The spark of genius or rebellion? If Star Wars is humanist, Starship Troopers is totalitarian.”
It’s also a WILD WILD WILD sci-fi action thriller – here’s the trailer:
“Would You Like To Know More?”
That’s a line used over and over again in the film, as Director Paul Verhoeven slips a subtle anti-fascism message throughout the movie. It’s the story of Earth trying to fend off an invasion of “bugs” – so we head to their planet to stop them – not a good idea:
The film is indeed a satire of governments that use the military might approach to everything – too disastrous effect. There are short propaganda shorts shown throughout the film – designed to show how state media is used to lull the masses into obedience while the leaders exert their authoritarian influence…wow, sounds like today!
But don’t worry, “Starship Troopers” doesn’t let that satire get in the way of the plot: the film is a big, bloody action movie with terrific special effects…
Know going forward that we should NEVER invade a “bug planet!”
We should also NEVER dress our Military in outfits that look like the ones proposed – with a sinister nod to the past…shameful.
Director Paul Verhoeven is one of cinema’s most notorious – and hilarious – provocateurs – remember this?
Oh yes, Verhoeven directed the notorious “Basic Instinct”, along with “RoboCop” and “Total Recall” as well…all leading to this movie:
“Showgirls!”
This film topped two lists for me in 1995: it was the worst film of the year – and the best film as well!

As a fan of music, the title “Starship Troopers” was a song from the 1970’s, performed by the progressive rock band YES…watch the video here – a really good song!
