Our Incredible Whale Encounter!
Yes, that’s the back of a Humpback Whale – literally a hundred yards away from our boat!
And there are many many many more pictures and video to come!
My daughter and I spent several days in Cabo San Lucas, located at the southern tip of Baja California…an incredible place to visit – especially when you get on a boat with the terrific company Cabo-Adventures.com to go snorkeling and they stop by the iconic “Arch” first:
Then, it was on to a terrific snorkeling location – but on the way, at least EIGHT Humpback Whales made an appearance – and wowed us!
It all began when someone spotted a “spout” of water spraying out of the sea, our first hint that Whales were around us – several days before the official opening of whale watching season:
After a few minutes of these sightings, we began to see more an more water spouts, then suddenly ALL OF THEM decided to breach the water at once!
Folks, I have so many pictures of Whales breaching the surface – and better yet, I switched to video and got this – incredible footage of the Whales jostling with each other and coming out of the water over and over again:
Yes, these Humpbacks kept spraying water and cresting the sea for miles…here are more pictures of what we experienced:
I switched back to video and got some more footage as well – on this clip, near the end you actually see several come out of the water as if trying to jostle for position!
Well, that was unbelievable! Bravo to Cabo-Adventures.com – what a great company with terrific tour guides!
We had some Dolphins join us for awhile on the ride home:
It was just one of the many great adventures we had with them in Cabo, like the “tailgating” Seal we saw as we headed back into port:

Every day in Cabo is a great adventure, even when you just go for a beach walk at sunset:
Yes, this fisherman actually caught a fish while we were watching him! See what he reeled in here:

Magnificent! HUmpbacks make it to my neck of teh Atlantic in the summer,. They smartly stay well off shore but are close enough to see them breach and spout as they feed. Beautiful sight.Thank you for the amazing pics.

Fantastic. I know the feeling as we were in a friend’s small boat in the Pelorus Sound New Zealand and had a similar experience only with four rather than eight. You were lucky by the sound of it and you captured some great footage. Our experience was just after the woman at sea world was dragged to her death by a whale. I have to admit when the whales came up to and under our boat and we could have reached out and patted them I was just a trifle nervous.Thanks for sharing. An amazing esperience and it looks like a great place also.

IN your video, when they all went under and there was a pause, all I could think of was that they’d come up under your boat! Ha! What a special moment, John. Great post.

Thanks Cindy – we weren’t on a whale watching tour, we were just on our way to the snorkeling site, and the tour guides said it was really amazing – which it was!

Pete, this was unusual, because you normally don’t get so many so close tougher – and so close to shore – but I took advantage of it and Monday I will share our fish encounter – thanks as always for the comments!
