Meet The World’s Largest Shark!
Scuba divers in Hawaii recently had an encounter with “Deep Blue”, believed to be one of the world’s largest Great Whites! Look at the size of her!
As ABC7 reports:
Divers spotted the huge shark, whose size and markings were said to resemble those of Deep Blue, during a Jan. 15 excursion off Oahu’s North Shore, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported. Shark conservationist Ocean Ramsey told the paper she was leading an expedition to monitor tiger sharks feeding on a nearby whale carcass when the massive shark approached their boat.
“She was just this big, beautiful gentle giant wanting to use our boat as a scratching post. We went out at sunrise, and she stayed with us pretty much throughout the day,” Ramsey told the newspaper, adding that the “shockingly wide” shark looked pregnant.
Bravo “Ocean Ramsey!”
Many of the pictures were posted by Ocean Ramsey’s Instagram account – phenomenal pictures of a truly magnificent creature…I now follow her and you should too!
The ABC7 reports goes on to add:
Deep Blue swam into the internet spotlight several years ago when a Discovery Channel film crew spotted her during a Shark Week shoot off Mexico’s Guadalupe Island. In video later shared widely on social media, the gargantuan creature swam up to the crew’s dive cage and poked around curiously before disappearing back into the blue.
At the time, she was estimated to be approximately 20 feet long and was considered to be among the largest great white sharks ever caught on camera. Discovery’s crew pegged her age at more than 50 years.
And as my headline says, this shark doesn’t mind shaking fins!
Here is an amazing video that captures the encounter as well:

I love this stuff, like when my daughter and I came across 8 Humpback Whales off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico:
It was an incredible wildlife encounter, which you can see here:
Let me know if you’d shake hands with a Great White!

You know, I saw this on TV news when it first came out, but it was so fleeting, and I was just walking through the room at the time . . . But watching your videos and seeing the photos here, all I can say is WOW. I get the same sense of humility that I get when contemplating the vastness of the universe. There is so much out there that is BIGGER than little ol’ me. Humbling. Which is important now and again. 🙂

Sharks get a bad rep, but like most creatures, they wish to go about their lives unhampered by humans. Sharks are an ancient type of fish, I dare say they will be swimming around long after we’ve destroyed ourselves.
I’m glad there are people who see the beauty in this remarkable creature.

Yes! Thanks for the comment – they are not interested in us, they are foragers, and whatever food presents itself, they will take advantage of, no different than any other species – they deserve much more respect than shown normally, which is one reason I loved these pictures so much!

Beautiful! Though I still prefer a substantial amount of distance between me and a shark – the little cage just wouldn’t do it for me!

Wow, very impressive. Looking good, even in her 50s (or older, it’s rude to ask her for her age). I chuckled at the thought of her using the boat at a scratching post; do sharks itch?

I am a bit nervous of sharks, John, so “no” I would not want to get near to one. We have the odd shark attack along our coasts. I also grew up with Jaws which scared me for life.

I’m not jumping in that water either, Robbie, but it is a magnificent creature that deserves to be as protected as any animal on a safari…thanks as always for the comment!

I do agree with you 100% on that point, John.

That certainly shows a different side to the much-feared Great White, John. This one looks very friendly, and almost ‘cuddly’. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Indeed, Pete – and while sharks are incredibly dangerous, no more so that animals we are eager to see at the zoo or on a safari, right?
