Honoring Those Who Have Sacrificed For Our Freedom…
I always lead this story with a reiteration of what Memorial Day means in America: it’s a day to honor those men and women who sacrificed their lives serving in the military to protect our freedoms…it is a day to remember and honor them…
It has also become a day to celebrate with friends and family, usually outside around a grill, so here are some of my favorite recipes for sliders – from around the world and an “All-American” one too!
Oh, and Robbie asked a great question: why is it called a “slider?”
Well, here’s the answer!
The name originated in the 1940s, when sailors in the U.S. Navy would refer to mini-burgers as “sliders” because of their extreme greasiness. In just one or two bites, the burger would just slide right down!
The All-American Slider!
While you can stack this slider a number of different ways – and as you can see as high as yo like, an “all-American slider” always uses some traditional flavors:
I try to really stack my burger with all of those great flavors – here’s one way to build it:
Top Bun
Cheddar Cheese – melted and dripping
Bacon! Bacon! Bacon!
Slider Patty
Tomato and sliced onion
Pickle
Mayonaise, mayonaise, mayonaise!
Bottom Bun
See that? DO NOT DEVIATE – this is perfection.

If you want to make it a big night of fun, do a “dinner and a movie” celebration with this burger:
This is the “Big Kahuna Burger” from the film “Pulp Fiction” and here is the recipe!

Thank you Robbie…while the day is a solemn one, it has also become a day of celebration with friends and family here in the US, with outdoor BBQ’s fired up all across the country! It looks like you are on a magical adventure as well!
