Welcome To Libertine!
New York is one of the word’s most delicious cities – with incredible restaurants that never stop experimenting!
This is the shot looking out the window at Libertine in New York’s West Village…one of the city’s hottest restaurant for good reason!
This is Libertine’s Owner Cody Pruitt. He spent several summers while growing up in France’s Burgundy region. After living in the West Village for several years, Pruitt decided to bring his idea of a French bistro to his neighborhood.
Libertine has a classic Parisian bistro look and feel – but when it’s packed with people – and it’s always packed, there is a great energy that is infectious!
Menu boards on the wall tell you what the Chef is cooking that night:
Start with the bread, which is a delicious baguette that is enhanced with some Chicken Liver Mousse…
Then, time to dive into the very creative dishes, beginning with one of my favorites: Oeufs Mayo!
It’s the perfect hor d’oeuvres: two “almost hard” boiled eggs split in half and topped with mayonnaise with trout roe— what one website called “inside-out deviled eggs!”
Take a look:
The mayo is rich but not thick and heavy, and the roe is a perfect counterbalance!
Here are. more of the restaurant’s signature dishes:
Lobster chou farçi – lobster and fish mousse-stuffed cabbage – this is deliciously moist and flavorful with a decadent sauce underneath…
Gnocchi Parisianne
These delicious nuggets of gnocchi are soft as pillows and the mushroom sauce is rich and full of flavor as well…some picked this as their favorite dish of the night.
This thick, gelatinous slab of meat and bright green herbs is as flavorful as it looks, and should be eaten by itself, with a small swipe of mustard.
Duck Deux Façons!
This is also a highlight: duck two ways!
The photo above is of the sliced duck breast with crispy, golden skin and a piquant pepper sauce that actually has a kick beneath all that butter. Part deux consists of a confit casserole of duck meat under pommes aligot, and it’s a delicious surprise!
Again, another outstanding dish loved by everyone at the table – as was this one:
Saucisse Pure
Here’s how one online reviewer described this:
“This simple pork sausage and mashed potato dish is a disarming ensemble of fat, butter, and gravy!”
It sure was, and we got one for the table so everyone could try a bite!
Braised Lamb a la Moutarde
This braised lamb was also delicious with a fresh salad of frisbee and orange slices…but the most unique dish of the night was still to come:
Poulet Dore Vin Jaune!
The classic French dish is one half of a Heritage Chicken served roasted with the entire leg served table side!
I am proud to say that I wasn’t the only one holding up their food for the camera…it’s certainly unique, but several people at the table said it was the best tasting chicken they’d ever had!
Overall, a really satisfying feast – every dish was delicious, not a sour note in the bunch!
Is it my favorite Chicken? Well, there is this:
Chez L’Ami Louis served an incredible chicken in Paris – click here to see why it’s $125!
Back in New York, I’ve been trying all kinds of food – including the iconic “chopped cheese” sandwich!

I’ve been tasting so much of what New York has to offer – including what many consider the best burger in the city:

It’s not all meat – I’ve had some wild seafood dishes as well!
Yes, this is a meal to share with a lot of other people – which is what I did! See how many different dishes came from this one crab!
That was a truly memorable and wildly delicious food adventure!
This was just one of many great food adventures we’ve had in the big apple – watch:
Yes, I did shots two separate times, and you can see them both by clicking on my story here:
I also ate at one of the New York’s most iconic restaurants!

Hi John, the restaurant menu looks divine, but I prefer my chicken without the feet!

It’s what makes the West Village so charming: smaller buildings with a vintage look and the decor is very French bistro – perfect surroundings for a great meal! Thanks for commenting!

That inside out deviled egg dish sure looks amazing! The dine-in people should watch out for devouring in too much before that unique chicken leg comes to their table!😆

Thanks for the comment! Yes they were delicious – it was great that we had enough people there to try more courses, a few bites each! Hope all is well with you!

It’s delicious! You can cut the meat off the bone and not do the “caveman” approach that I did! Always great to hear from you!

Fabulous place, great menu, and that chicken leg ending in foot is fantastic. What Americans don’t realize is that chicken feet are delicious.

Thank you for the comment! Yes, the menu was really creative and delicious and while the presentation wows everyone, most don’t go near that part of the dish!

I can see the appeal of a trendy restaurant serving great food, but totting up the prices from the menu, I think my bill would be close to our weekly shopping and grocery budget! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

It’s not cheap, but many are shared dishes and it’s a “special occasion” place to be sure!
