My Popeye’s Cajun Fish Sandwich Taste Test! Does It Measure Up To Their Fried Chicken Sandwich?

Behold Popeye’s Cajun Fish Sandwich!

It was a premiere as big as Popeye’s Fried Chicken Sandwich: earlier this year, the fast food chain announced a new “cajun-seasoned” fried fish sandwich with much fanfare – and I had to try it!

As with the Fried Chicken Sandwich I had before, I ordered this from the drive-thru window…and then took it home to open it up to testing!

First, a big “A+” to Popeye’s for their colorful insulated bag that holds the sandwich! I love the look of it, and the sandwich itself is nestled in a paper wrapper inside as well:

The good news is that Popeye’s uses the same toasted brioche bun it uses for the fried chicken sandwich. It has a “buttery shine” on the outside, and is toasted brown on the inside. It’s delicious!

Time To Bite Down!

With that, I bit down – and guess what? Delicious!

The “tart-n-tangy” tartar sauce, along with the crisp, tart pickles are great! They are a perfect counter-balance to the hot, slightly greasy fish – but not in a bad way! Add the moderately fiery cajun seasoning and this sandwich is a winner!

I love the abundance of pickles and tartar – not too much, just the right amount to give me a great mix of flavors with every bite…and it’s surprisingly filling as well!

Bravo Popeye’s – you’ve got another winner here!

This follows my first ever bite of Popeye’s legendary Fried Chicken Sandwich earlier this year:

In fairness, this travelled a half hour before I ate it, so don’t knock them for the slightly wrinkled bun…the real question is: how did it taste?

Well, you can get the whole review by clicking on my story here:

Chef Achatz Does Fried Chicken Sandwiches Too!

Popeye’e is known for having the best fast food Fried Chicken Sandwich, but they aren’t the only ones making them now!

The brilliant Chef Grant Achatz has Chicago’s three-Michelin starred Alinea, as well as the “always changing” themes at his restaurant NEXT. Now, Achatz has a casual restaurant in Chicago’s Fulton Market district that has some of the most incredible “casual food” you can imagine – including a fried chicken sandwich!

This buttermilk-brined chicken thigh is perfectly cooked and coated – with crisp homemade pickles, sauce and shredded lettuce…and the restaurant offers so much more as well….click here to see this incredible restaurant up close:

  3. I would love to try that, but would have to have it without Tartar Sauce. I never have liked the taste of that, might be the capers.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  4. Looks good! I’ll have to try it!
