Who Wants A Salad?
OK, that’s funny…many friends send me pictures like this – but everyone needs to know that I do, indeed, eat salads!
So while a “Mega-Burger” is always entertaining to me – I also enjoy a good salad – like this!
I’m Trying To Be Healthy, So I’ll Just Have A Salad…
Check out these “Skyscraper Salads” – it was a wild fad in China a while back, all due to a very bad idea by a giant Burger chain!
Yes, That’s A Salad! A Mega-Skyscraper Salad!
The biggest – I mean, TALLEST – salads were created at a Burger joint – specifically, at Burger Kings located in China!
My latest edition of “What The Friday” has the high-flying story!
Talk about “Filling Up Your Plate!”
It all began because Burger King had strict rules in place for us of their salad bars!
As the website Kotaku reported at the time:
“In China, Pizza Huts are either take-out only or somewhat upscale sit-down restaurants that even serve steak. A while back, it became a fad of sorts to build enormous fruit and vegetable structures at Pizza Hut salad bars. The reason was that customers only got one plate and one trip to the salad bar, so they wanted their visit to be worth it. And was it ever.”
So, you understand what happened? Creative customers made sure to fill their plate – and there was only one place to go:
UP!
Creative-thinking Salad Bar fans soon took to social media to share their creations!
The result were truly amazing plates of food.
So much so that another restaurant chain, Pizza Hut ,actually announced it was removing salad bars from its China restaurants as part of a menu revamp.
It was believed that salad stacking was to blame!
However, when Pizza Hut announced it was removing the salad bars, that apparently encouraged people to have one last go at creating salad towers before the salad bars were gone for good!
Here’s a picture of someone doing just that:
Brought Back Down to Earth…
this social media fad was short-lived, however.
According to Kotaku, the China Burger Kings discontinued their salad bars to discourage food waste….like this!
I miss the “good old days” before the pandemic shut the world down – days when creative foodies had fun with their food – and while I don’t condone ANY food waste, you have to give credit to these Culinary Artisans for their inspired work!
And even better, there was a “how-to” video showing the process!
Just another reason to love the Chinese!
And over in Japan, let’s not forget that this was a thing:
Yes, kids were impaling their cheeseburgers on their straws!
Click here to see why this became “a thing” as well:
China has incredible food, but it’s not immune to the “mashup” gone wrong…
The “Oreo Spam” Burger!
Oh yes, it’w real and if you click here you can see who did it and why!
If you enjoy these posts, why not subscribe and never miss out? It’s easy, and there are NO ads of any kind, just stuff I like…click on the main page and “follow” me on the upper right…
If you like the story, share it with friends on social media! Thanks!

They are beautiful, but I am scratching my head wondering how many people you need to eat it all?

These were done for creative more than efficient reasons, but I would think a single stack would cover a pretty good sized party! I actually might try one one day – when we get to throw parties again! Thanks for commenting!

They do look delicious. I’m still in winter mode and wanting mega burgers. I need to switch seasons and get on board with salad.

I like a little salad, but it has its limits.
Those are the limits! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Oh man, I’ve not had cucumber in ages. I love the stuff. I could totally go for a salad skyscraper burger extraordinaire with uber cucumber slices. Yum! Then again, the giant hunk of meat in the first burger looks pretty damn good too..!

I am impressed by what these people have done with salads. I have seen some interesting food carvings done by Chef Sumith Babu too. He is very talented.
