Embrace A “Lovot!” These “Loneliness Robots” Were Created To Cheer You Up! “What The Friday!??!!” Here’s Video!

“A Lovot may not be a living creature, but it will warm your heart.”

Yes, Japan now has “Loneliness Robots” – called “Lovot” – and they were designed for one reason only: to cheer you up!

This edition of “What The Friday” may have taken Robots to their most useful conclusion: these Robotic “Lovots” were created for one reason only – to cheer you up, and be your friend!

As the terrific Reporter Katy Kelly for SoraNews24.com reports:

“A ‘Lovot’ is designed to be helpless and dependent upon you, to tug at your heartstrings and help you feel less lonely. Despite a base price of 299,800 yen (US$2889) before tax, plus a monthly support fee of at least 8,980 yen, the little robots have clearly found their market — they’re so popular that ordering right now means you’d be lucky to receive your Lovot in late March, and various coverings and fashion items are already sold out.”

Yes, that’s how popular they are! There is good news if you don’t want to make that high priced purchases – there is actually a “Lovot” cafe where you can see them in person – yes, you can book a 70-minute time slot to socialize with one yourself and see if a “Lovot” is in your future!

So what is it like to hang out with one?

Here’s a video of the “Lovots” in action:

these “loneliness robots” have already been hugely successful in Japan – they are designed specifically to cheer you up and make you feel happier!

As SoraNews24.com reported:

“Each Lovot comes equipped with a “sensor horn” atop its head. This is where the camera and microphone are equipped, allowing it to take in what you say to it and follow your face with its eyes.”

As always, this terrific website has all the latest news from Asia, and you have to go to their story to see these Lovot in action – and also to see what they serve in each cafe!

  2. I love this! Who wouldn’t? When it comes to robots and making people feel good, Boston Dynamics has outdone all the rest with robots dancing to “Do You Love Me”. My kids at school want to see this every day. They know every move, and they have named the last character “the magnet”, although their favorite is the dog. Hats off to robots and feeling good!!

  3. Only in Japan with a hefty price tag attached.. Cute and I know you don’t have to feed them or take them for walks.. If they serve a purpose thats fine just not for me.. .but as always an interesting post, John…

  4. I am fascinated, but i wouldn’t want one. I have written a few stories about robots, some dark, some funny, but the ones in my imagination are VERY clever and would look down rather snootily at these lovebots!

  5. I can see the appeal, but the cost is crazy. You can get better affection from a dog, and can adopt one for next to nothing. Those crazy Japanese! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  6. There are so many lonely people in the world, John, that a robot like this seems like a terrific idea. Hopefully they become less expensive over time so more people can enjoy them. It seems like a reasonable solution to the loneliness problem.

  7. Aww! They are adorable, but definitely too much for my budget.

  8. Nawww I can’t help but want one of these! The monthly ‘support fee’ on top is a bit much, but still, cheaper than having a ‘real’ friend you need to buy birthday presents for I suppose. I love the theory behind them and the sense of comfort that I imagine could bring, as strange as it at first seems. Plus no fear of contracting covid from getting too close to your Lovot. xx

  10. Yes, these are sorely needed in Japan. I’ve been reading up on the issue of loneliness in Japan for some time now. They even have this thing where you can sort of hire a sister or offspring.

Quite frankly, Lovots (they are sooo cute) could probably be used here in America, too, except Westerners have a different mental attitude about robots than Japanese people do. We’re much more likely to be suspicious of them, but I’d buy one if I could.
