LA’s Best Burger? Maybe! Messiest? For Sure! Petit Trois And Their “Big Mec!” Plus Hollywood’s Most Unique Burgers!

Meet LA’s Reigning Foodies – The Trois Mec Guys!

Chefs Ludo Lefebvre, Jon Shook, and Vinny Dotolo have taken LA’s food scene by storm – their restaurant empire in the Southern California area keeps growing, and I’ve eaten in many of them. The food is big, audacious, and packed with flavor…sometimes too much!

Time To Bite Into “The Big Mec!”

I ate at the trio’s Petit Trois location in Sherman Oaks, and if you want to go, get a reservation – it’s always packed!

It’s a beautiful. Parisian-style bistro that has classic bistro dishes with a lot of Southern California flair…

The menu has such classics as Burgundy Escargots, Steak Tartare, Sole Meuniere and Steak Frites, but what caught my burger-loving eye was their take on the “Big Mac”, which they call, naturally:

Behold The Messy Majesty Of The Big Mec Double Cheeseburger!

Time To Bite Into This Big Mec!

What can I say? Their take on a McDonald’s Big Mac supersizes EVERYTHING, and as the menu says, there’s plenty of bordelaise sauce as well!

As I said at the beginning, the boys love to amp up the flavor, to an extreme that can sometimes be too much, but believe it or not, this works! And yes, it’s the messiest burger I’ve ever eaten!

As you can see, the sauce, cheese and gravy oozes from the burger and forms a nice pool of sauce to dip the burger in as well…it’s super rich, but as you can see when the burger is cut inhale, there are a lot of other things inside that provide a nice balance to the richness, particularly nice chunks of tart pickles…

While these pictures I took make the burger look massive, it’s actually NOT as huge as you would think – they were wise to serve it on a normal size bun, as too much bread would have made it TOO filling:

Glazed Bacon!

A special side dish is the glazed bacon, which is a thick slice of bacon that has a slightly sweet glaze…it is delicious as a side dish…overall, Trois Mec has a strong bistro menu, lots of flavor, and yes, it’s a messy burger, but not in a negative way!

There are lots of burger in Southern California and here are two more I have enjoyed:

Astro Burger in West Hollywood, on “route 66”, offers up a massive pastrami-topped burger that is delicious – and all of the flavors blend together nicely – you can see my whole review here:

https://johnrieber.com/2018/05/09/las-iconic-astro-burger-on-route-66-the-legendary-pastrami-burger-i-eat-the-whole-sign/

I am also a fan of the “Plan Check” Burger in West Los Angeles:

Their unique “add on” is ketchup leather: literally like a fruit roll up, but it’s ketchup! You can see my review here:

So, Trois Mec’s “Big Mec” burger is the messiest burger I’ve had so far, and it is also one of the LA’s best!

  3. Oooo–those all look good. The ketchup leather is very intriguing. Unfortunately, I’m a mustard on my burger, and not ketchup, person, but I could be convinced to try!

  4. How do you even bite into that without getting covered in gravy? Did you bring a bib?

  5. I’m not a fan of gravy on a burger myself, but the rest of it looks delicious, John. And that restaurant oozes style.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  6. Wow that would take some eating..not for the faint-hearted. I think I might skip the sauce and save the front of my jumper but I like the look of the Astro-burger..thanks John..

  7. That burger looks insanely messy! I wouldn’t know where to start! It looks really good though. I once visited Sherman Oaks when I worked in Ojai for a bit. Lovely place.

    • Thanks for the comment! I was surprised by the “look” of the burger when it arrives, and it was definitely a “knife and fork” burger – and eating it that way, the combination worked really well!

  10. Beautiful interior inside the Petit Trois! I’m not usually a sauce person, but I do like gravy, so I find that Big Mec burger oddly appealing. And that is one fat slice of bacon! xx
