Thanks A.I. For The Photo And The Caption!
You see, I wanted to share a picture of a fisherman catching his dinner from New York’s Hudson River! Why? Well, they are now OK to eat!

I used A.I. to generate this photo – which imagines a new future for fishing fans, and they nicely captioned it for me….why am I telling you this?
Because you can now eat the fish the swims in New York’s Hudson River!

Well, the “Hudson – Raritan Estuary” To Be Exact!
This map show where the Atlantic Ocean slides into New York’s Lower Bay, which becomes the Hudson River, which forms a watery boundary between New York and New Jersey! Here’s a video showing NY on the left as my wife Alex and I took a fall foliage tour boat once:

Yes, this massive river has lots of fish, and now you can eat them!
From NBC New York:
“For the first time in 50 years, the department says everyone can now eat “some fish” from the Lower Hudson River — that covers Rip Van Winkle Bridge in Catskill to the southern tip of Manhattan.
“For the first time in 50 years, everyone in the family can now eat some fish from the Lower Hudson River,” said Audrey Van Genechten, one of the state health department’s top fish experts.“

That means you can fish alongside Lady Liberty! Here is the river looking out from lower Manhattan – with the Statue of Liberty sitting in the middle – and then a pan across the river and up to the Freedom Tower!
I decided to take a walk along the river while the experts explain what’s going on in that water…
By the way, I started at the southern tip of Manhattan, where you can not only see the Statue of Liberty, but looking north, you see New Jersey staring back from the left:

You can walk all the way up to the top of New York City – but there is construction underway at various parts…now, back to the fish and NBC:
What’s the reason for the change? Lower levels of toxic chemicals known as PCBs, which is shorthand for polychlorinated byphenyls.
“PCB levels in some of the fish had gone down enough that we are now able to allow families — even younger women and children — to eat some of the fish,” Van Genechten said.
So once again, this beautiful river can also provide you with a meal!

The general population can now eat up to four seafood meals a month from the lower portion of the Hudson River. The state also said anglers should stick to the striped bass; health officials do not recommend eating the carp or smallmouth bass.

Once you catch your Hudson River Sea Bass, you have an extra step that could provide even more preventative measures.
“If you remove the skin and fat, you can get rid of 50% of the PCBs that are left,” Van Genechten said.

With all that said, time to eat!

I’m doing a crossover event with my food blog “Bite!Eat!Repeat”, and if you head over there now, you can see a Sea Bass recipe I made to honor the Hudson River fish!
I hope everyone takes to the river and cooks up some fun dishes using nature’s bounty!
And if you are here in New York, of course you need a closer view of Lady Liberty:
Click here for my story about visiting Lady Liberty up close – and how you can hike the Brooklyn Bridge too!
Of course, New York is filled with amazing things to see – like these very skinny skyscrapers!

Here’s a closer look at some of New York’s wildest “skinny scrapers!”
I had a blast checking out all of New York’s new architecture – I have a long history of walking this incredible city, especially in the magical world of Central Park:

That included this ramble through “the ramble”:

It’s part of Central Park, and before you think it’s too close to the bustle of New York, look who we saw roaming the park:
Yep, A Wild Raccoon!
That was a cool sighting in Central Park’s “Ramble!”
I have posted a number of “Hitch Hiking” segments, where I go on a cool hike and tie it to an Alfred Hitchcock film – like his New York-based thriller “Rear Window!”
Click here for a walk in Central Park and a great film teaser as well:
And finally, with July 4th coming up soon, why not head to the Hudson River for this celebration?
What a light show!
