Eat This And Be Kind!
Everyone knows I love a good burger – and this looks like a GREAT burger!
So why am I being warned to be nice after I eat it? Because the restaurant in Australia that makes it is trying to re-open after the worldwide pandemic, and worries that social media could kill their chances!
Now that restaurants are slowly re-opening, their message is a good one for us all!
My friend Ben sent me a story about The Milky Lane restaurant, where the owners are asking for some consideration as they re-open to the public. As you can see, they took to Twitter to spread the word, and this was the Daily Mail headline I read:
“Restaurant issues blunt warning to pompous influencers ‘smashing us with horrible reviews’ that they will cost people their JOBS – as it finally reopens after crippling COVID-19 shutdown”
The Milky Lane Restaurant chain, located throughout Australia, has been shutdown since March 23, and they are asking for time to get back in their “food groove” before social media influencers pounce.
The Milky Lane Owners have asked influencers to be kind with their reviews, stating:
“Don’t leave a horrible review, reach out so we can fix it.”
The chain known for its outlandish meals, and normally is a hit with Instagram and online lovers – but as they point out, jobs are on the line if they can’t recover their business – and I agree: we need to give all of our local restaurants a chance to get back on their feet – let’s take a “social media food review” break!
Here’s th entire story on The Daily Mail:
Let’s take another look at their food:
OK, it all looks supersized and full of flavor – everything they serve is designed to be “over the top” – and I’m all-in! In fact, one of the best burgers in Los Angeles looks like this:
Yes, Petit Trois on the iconic Ventura Boulevard serves their homage to the “Big Mac” – theirs is called the “Big Mec!”

I can’t wait to support all of LA’s best restaurant, big and small…like the legendary Astro Burger on Santa Monica Boulevard – AKA “Route 66”:
The Pastrami Burger!
Yes, it is – and it is delicious! Click here to see how I ate through as much of Astro Burger’s menu as I could!

Hey John,
amen!
This virus has brought out both the best and worse in people and this Covid-nazi’s are among the worse.
Let’s just pray for some sanity as we move into the phase of reopenings.

Thanks for the note, Gary. I live in Beverly Hills and we had unrest last night, so things are regressing here, unfortunately.

In many ways, this pandemic has given restaurants huge local support- the kind that says, “Wow, I never realized how important you are.” People are supporting the locals, yet some restaurants just can’t make it. Two popular locals have closed their doors. So sad!

That pastrami sandwich is mouthwatering, John. My husband loves it as much as you! Our local donut shop just re-open two days ago. We’ll keep an eye open for other restaurants to re-open.

Miriam, we are trying to support local restaurants big and small…that donut shop is going to be so happy to have you back – the pastrami burger is very good…sure, you don’t need it very often, but when you do….thanks for commenting!

We’ve been going to the same donut shop for 26 years and we want it to stay open! Thank you for your post, John!

I wouldn’t complain. I give a restaurant 3 strikes, trying different items on the menu or a different day. I realize that the “chef” might have the day off and the cook covering is having a bad day, or whatever. I’ve worked too many hours in a kitchen at different establishments to complain. It’s hard work.

That’s a great point, Cindy. Everyone has an “off” day, and if they are a good restaurant that fix whatever issues they have! Thanks as always for commenting!

A very fair request. Some people are to quick to criticize a situation that could be handled with a simple conversation, and they need to be reminded of that. As for those burgers, very tempting…..

It would be nice if people could exercise some kindness and consideration over the next few months, John, as the world starts to get back on its feet. Let’s see if it does happen or if we have learned nothing over the past few months.

It would never occur to me to attack a restaurant online. If I wasn’t happy with the food or service, I would complain at the time. If they didn’t fix my issue, I would just never go back to that restaurant. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
