A “Caviar-Topped Cheeseburger” From Dick’s Drive-In! How Did You Celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Celebrating Valentine’s Day With A Caviar-Topped Cheeseburger!

This is exactly what you think it is. And I did it: Alex got a special Valentine’s Day treat this year: an iconic Dick’s Drive-In Cheeseburger topped with Ossetra Caviar.

I shared this on my “all food all the time” website, but wanted to share it here as well with some additional material and links – so here’s how my food mashup began:

I got an email from Dick’s telling me I could order a box of cheeseburgers to be shipped anywhere in the US…of course, I said yes immediately, and within a week, this show up!

These twelve cheeseburgers were ready to go, and so I decided to surprise Alex with one for Valentine’s Day.

But first, I had to serve Alex “Caviar Three Ways!”

Caviar Dish #1: Blinis!

This is the traditional service of course: Ossetra Caviar on top of smoked salmon and creme fraiche, plus a few without the salmon…a nice appetizer to serve with a glass of champagne, which I did.

Next up, a main course with a side dish:

I made a piece of seared salmon with lemon cream sauce, sprinkled with dill and topped with Salmon Caviar.

This would be served with a roasted Hasselbeck Potato topped with garlic butter…

After roasting the thinly sliced potato in the oven, topped with garlic butter and sage, it was time to finish the dish with a large dollop of Ossetra Caviar…

The next step is to put these two “caviar topped” dishes on the same plate, along with some broccoli rabe:

But I wasn’t done….then came the surprise for Alex – remember that box of Dicks?

When you buy them at Dick’s in Seattle, they arrive wrapped in yellow…but when you heat them up and add a dollop of caviar, they reveal themselves this way:

OK OK…it works best to eat the caviar first and then take a bite of the burger, which that terrific cheese oozing out…for those who don’t know, Dick’s Drive-In serves three different kinds of burgers, plus freshly cut French fries and milk shakes…that’s the menu, except you can get an ice cream cone for dessert…

Yes, that is Bill Gates waiting patiently outside the large glass windows 0 one of the richest people in the world enjoy’s Dick’s so much he waits patiently in line with everyone else to grab some burgers, fries and milkshakes!

I have a thing for Cheeseburgers, which is why I have been eating my way through some of New York’s best, like this:

I ate this at Hamburger America, and George Motz himself made it for me!

Another great burger lives on New York’s 7th Street:

I also walked more than 5 miles in New York one day to try a legendary Harlem sandwich:

Behold The “Chop Cheese!”

Want to know what it is and why it is called that?

Here’s a clue:

Yes, the chop chop sound is just one reason this is such a unique sandwich – click here to go to my “all food all the time” blogs called “Bite! Eat! Repeat!” – your site for all things food for more!

  1. I have always been curious about caviar and what it tastes like as I will never be able to try it (allergies). The idea of it on a burger is great and that certainly would be a meal to remember!

  2. What a special meal on a big day, with caviar dancing and prancing on each dish. I loved how Dick’s cheeseburger got the same caviar attention. Way to go, John!

  5. John, you delivered a beautiful meal for Alex, even allowing for a cheeseburger topped with caviar ‘dessert’! :) I’m sure she was delighted with all of it.

Julie took me to a Turkish restauarant (her treat) on the 14th, and we also had a lovely meal.

    Best wishes, Pete.
