So excited to share this! “Attack Of The Doc!’ is here!
Here’s a great way to spend your weekend! I am honored to be a part of this terrific new documentary – which you can see now!
As the film’s Director Chris Gore just announced:
Happy Birthday!Monday was the 21st anniversary of the launch of @G4TV and you can celebrate by watching #AttackoftheDoc! now on Amazon, YouTube Movies and @Vimeo. The documentary is a love letter to #G4TV made by fans, for fans. #aots #AttackoftheShow!
So…before we dive into this terrific new film, some of you may want to know: what was G4?
G4 Was “Plugged In!”
G4 was a feisty cable TV network that resulted from the mashup of two networks in the mid 2000’s: TechTV, which focused on technology, and G4, which focused on video games.
What happened when they came together was a network that loved all of that plus pop culture, superheroes and much much more!
That’s Adam Kessler and Morgan Webb on the left, hosts of “X-Play”, and Kevin Periera and Olivia Munn, hosts of “Attack Of The Show!”
These were two of the signature shows on the network – a quick shout out to “X-Play” head Writer Guy Barnum, who is a successful standup Comic/Writer/Actor, who now regularly appears on my wife’s talk show “The Kelly Clarkson Show!”
As for G4, I was head of programming for many of the years that it existed, and the documentary dives into how the network came to be and more importantly, how it became a pop culture fixture for millions…
Several years in the making, Gore and his incredible team have told the story of the scrappy G4 cable network, primarily through the eyes of the incredibly inventive, daily live hour known as “Attack Of The Show!”
First, check out the trailer for “Attack Of The Doc!”:
Bravo to Chris Gore – shown here with terrific G4 Hosts Alison Haislip, Kirsten Holt Adams and Candace Bailey – Christ told me about his plan for the film prior to the pandemic – and his tireless work through that time kept this project alive – it’s truly a love letter to the people who made this network so special…
Yes, there was Olivia Munn jumping into a giant chocolate cream pie…and the story of what it took to make that is as hilarious as the footage of her doing it!
There are far too many moments to highlihgt – the documentary does it for me – but…
Olivia Munn as Slave Leia is one to share – G4 was the ONLY network to have permission go live from inside a “Star Wars” convention – as well as our exclusive Comic-Con live coverage, inside the world’s largest pop culture convention.
G4’s Hosts were mobbed, and the convention organizers found our signing sessions swamped by thousands of fans, all hoping to meet the Hosts – who loved interacting with the fans…it was a special club!
There were so many great talented people in front of and behind the camera – this is a photo from a promo shot for the week-long “Attack” shows that we shot live in Las Vegas:
Fun trivia: the resort that hosted the live daily shows required us to buy all food and drink from them – and since it was 100 degrees and we had to hydrate the extras in the pool,, the cost for the bottled water that week? EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS!
Zach Selwyn is a successful TV Host/ Author and of course acclaimed Musician – that’s him on the right of the photo – he did an original soundtrack for the documentary as well!
Here’s a preview:
Get it on Spotify and buy more Zach music – his band is “Zachariah & The Lobos Riders” – here’s a terrific example:
As I said, G4’s Comic-Con coverage was unprecedented – we were the first network to do an entire live show from the convention floor – and fans loved it – as evidenced by Host Sara Underwood and Alison being swarmed by fans at our official signing – here’s a look at some of the highlights of that coverage:
G4 also had unprecedented live coverage of E3 – by the end of our network’s run we were doing 25+ hours live!
Here’s a look at the coverage:
And remember when Kevin and Olivia ran the Ninja Warrior course in Japan?
Yes, G4 was also home to “Nina Warrior” – another pop culture sensation!
Kevin and Olivia rant the course when G4 filmed a bunch of “Attack Of The Show” specials in Tokyo – you can see more here:
G4 also went around the world to explore some of the most interesting aspects of pop culture, technology and gaming – like when Alison Hailslip surfed with the notorious “Bra Boys!”
Here’s a look at her wild adventures down under:
One more time: go online and stream the movie – support this effort to celebrate a unique time in TV history!
