Behold The Serenity Of Sheep Grazing!
Amid the anxiety of the Covid-19 pandemic, here is some welcome, soothing relief from the day-to-day news: sheep!
Welcome To Shafer Vineyards!
Shafer Vineyards in Napa Valley is one of the great wineries of the regions, with world class wines and a down-to-earth approach to their work that is refreshing. And now, they have sheep!
As they note on their website:
Each year a large herd of sheep visits Shafer Vineyards during springtime here in Napa Valley. They come to naturally mow the abundant cover crop that grows in our vine rows, which is an important part of our approach to sustainable farming. Everyone at the winery loves it when the sheep arrive. There’s something about their presence that is calming, cheering, and peaceful.
The winery adds:
During the upheaval and uncertainty in the world right now, we wanted to share the pastoral beauty of this with you.
These images of beautiful sheep grazing in our vineyards are set to the music of songbirds, the vineyard breeze, occasionally the geese on our pond, and of course the sheep themselves. Think of it as our version of one of those logs-burning-in-a-fireplace videos that can play in the background of your day at home.
We’ve repeated one hour of footage to give you a total of six hours of wine country tranquility. This was shot during March 2020 here on our property by Napa Films. The sheep come to us from the folks at Woolly Weeders.
Check out the calming video and be prepared to feel more relaxed!
Thank you Shafer for this serene break from the news of the day…I can’t wait for Napa Valley to open up again fully, so wine lovers can head there and take in more beauty like this:
And nothing beats an early morning balloon ride over the vineyards – in fact, a morning balloon sighting is guaranteed there:
Here’s a look at some of the incredible beauty of an early morning balloon sighting in Napa Valley:
Also, this worldwide pandemic has resulted in millions of us sheltering at home, and opening up our world to other creatures:
Bears are back at Yosemite, and some sheep have taken over a Welsh town as well – click here to see video:

Once the valley reopens, it’s a gorgeous getaway – you don’t have to even do wine tasting, just the drive up the valley, and then across to Sonoma county and back down is incredible!

I love that they bring in sheep to do this John. Healthy for everyone and good for the plants too.

I made sure not to count the sheep, just in case that sent me to sleep too early!
But that has made me fancy some wine, and I haven’t got any! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

ThHanks for the kind attempt to calm my nerves. I love sheep. One of the best things about living in Scotland. They were omnipresent. 🙂

And I read there are more sheep than people in New Zealand! Thanks for commenting, glad you are staying “safe AND sane” – not easy these days!

I’m just babysitting granddaughters and working on novel 3. Also, turning this time for physical training. I’m going to hike the Isle of Wight in July. **ck Cornavirus! It had better allow me to go. 😉

You are hiking to the Isle of Wight? Where are you starting from? 🙂

The flight is easy to London from AZ. Then a 2 hour train ride to West Cowes? A ferry over then a seven day walk. Although, I’m open to breaking it up with leg of the adventure on bicycle. I’m not locked in. Open to suggestions!

Ah, I see. Hiking across the island. I have a friend living there, but it is a place I have never visited. 🙂

I used to live even closer. But I can’t go everywhere, even in a country as small as Britain. 🙂 x

It’s okay. I haven’t been to Utah and it’s only 2 hours away. Shame on me.

I always think it’s interesting that wherever one lives, to go to a “foreign place” seems more special than what’s next to you. Even though people on the other side of the world make great efforts to visit what’s literally next door to you.

I didn’t know about sheep mowing the lawn, John. What a great idea!

One of the great restaurants, The French Laundry, brought in 4 goats a few years back to clean out bramble…the goats love it!
