There was a major record set recently that combines the worlds of burgers and pork!
2012 World Pork Expo sets biggest pork burger record!
This year’s World Pork Expo just concluded, AND BOY DID THEY STEP UP TO THE CHEESEBURGER PLATE!
This year’s Pork Expo set a record by grilling the world’s largest pork burger, made with 260 pounds of pork and a 40-pound bun. That’s a ton of pork as you can see!
They clearly had more than a hand full of pork burger to deal with….I have to assume there was no need to put bacon on top of it!
I have to say, this is a good looking burger, but a big difficult to hold in one hand.
SPEAKING OF BURGERS ON STEROIDS… This is setting a record of some sort somewhere, don’t you think?
Then I found these pictures online without too much effort – as the most creative and ambitious Chefs continue to look for ways to amaze us with their burger BIGNESS:
Whether you use a small child or an ipod as a reference point, the internet is full of crazy pictures of super-sized food…prompting the major burger chains to try and step up to join in the madness:
BURGER KING JAPAN GOES BIG!
Burger King is marking its 5th anniversary in Japan with the limited-time offer a five-patty Whopper. And to make excess more accessible, the chain has cut the price from ¥1,100 (roughly $14) to just ¥550 ($7). A large combo with fries and a drink will set you back ¥1,000 ($12.70) though.
Remember the 7 Patty Whopper?
The BK 5-patty burger is nothing compared to what they did when Windows 7 was released in Japan: they offers a 7-patty Whopper to celebrate…the burger is over five inches tall, weighs more than a pound, and has 2,120 calories. Well, at least they let the Japanese know it existed…here in the US you are sometimes on your own…
DO THE “LOCO MOCO!”
eaterSF has a great article about “secret” menu items – which leads us to the restaurant Namu Gaji, where Chef Dennis Lee has his “famous” loco moco ($14), a hamburger patty topped with a fried egg and gravy – sure looks good! Finally, let’s get the latest from the world of bison…
GET YOUR BISON ON!
This is from the great website A Hamburger Today, confirming who can sell you a great bison burger: Ten years after the first Ted’s Montana Grill opened (in Columbus, Ohio, of all places), there are now 44 restaurants spread across 16 states. Ted’s will tell you that bison meat is similar in taste to beef, but with a richer, slightly sweeter flavor.”
And FINALLY – I found this, from The Vortex Bar and Grill in Atlanta…
The Double Coronary Burger!
Here is a gut-buster to open up your arteries…a flame-broiled half pound burger made of premium ground sirloin is topped with 2 fried eggs, 4 American cheese slices, 5 strips of crispy fried bacon, and instead of a being placed in between buns it is placed between two grilled cheese sandwiches. This burger comes with a your choice of side, mayo and a dill pickle.
Go big or go home!
