Meet Sarah Wynn-Williams…Just Don’t Try To Talk To Her…
You see, this Author has been muzzled by the Lawyers at Meta, formerly Facebook. And her lack of speaking has made her book a bestseller!
It’s “what I’m reading” and it’s sparking a ton of controversy!

This photo is from a recent appearance the Author made in England – where she was not allowed to speak! The Guardian headline says it all:
“Sales of Meta whistleblower’s memoir soar after Hay festival ‘silencing’”
Here’s what they reported:
Sarah Wynn-Williams remained silent during her hour-long appearance, but sales of Careless People have since increased by more than 300%
Sarah Wynn-Williams – who between 2011 and 2017 served as the director of global public policy at what was then called Facebook – sat on stage but did not speak during her hour-long appearance on 31 May on the advice of her lawyer.

She Can’t Even Call Attention To The Book!
The Guardian reports on just how farcical Meta’s legal claims are relating to any appearance she makes – anywhere!
They report:
In March, Meta filed a sanctions motion claiming that Wynn-Williams violates the order any time she makes an appearance in a place “where she should know that her book is available for sale and her presence might draw attention to it”, according to a letter from her lawyers sent to Hay festival on 30 May. “Meta also said attending the Hay festival would violate the order because the Hay festival’s ‘promotional materials include a direct link to Browse the Festival bookshop, … which offers Careless People for sale’.”
Well, if you wonder why they are acting this way – READ THE BOOK!
I read this this crazy story a few months ago – and her story is riveting, sobering and shocking!

Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism is a memoir by Sarah Wynn-Williams, a former director of global public policy at Facebook, detailing her experiences within the company’s inner circle. The book offers a critical look at Facebook’s corporate culture, its impact on global politics, and the personal fallout for employees, exposing issues like misogyny, double standards, and the company’s handling of public policy under Mark Zuckerberg’s leadership.

Published in March 2025, it’s a candid, often absurd, and eye-opening account of power, greed, and the loss of idealism at a tech giant. Stories of alleged bribery, corruption, targeting minors and more are all recounted in the book.
By the way, the company’s legal action isn’t for lying, although Meta’s PR says the book is false in many ways: instead, they are suing her because they say her NDA prohibits her from sharing the information.
In other words, she’s not allowed to share some of the shocking details of what happened inside the company – and the negative impact they knew it was having on users!
There is much more you can read about this lawsuit and the company’s effort to muzzle Wynn-Williams here:
And buy the book! It’s really well written and boy, do the people at the beginning of Facebook really look bad!
Remember this film?

The Social Network!
This riveting 2010 film told the story of the rise of Facebook and the subsequent lawsuit between the two founders…a brilliant film that is compelling and a cautionary tale – and it was so great they made a sequel!

“The Social Reckoning” comes out this fall, and it continues the Facebook story.
Here is the trailer for the film, which looks like it could have been about “Careless People”:
I loved the first film and want to see this – but this new trailer is not going over well!
As Mediate reports:
The first trailer for “The Social Reckoning” dropped on Wednesday, and critics are dragging the first look across coals, mocking director Aaron Sorkin and the choice of Jeremy Strong to play Facebook head, Mark Zuckerberg.
“The Social Reckoning” is a sequel to the 2010 hit “The Social Network,” which featured Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg and tracked the beginnings of Facebook. That film was directed by David Fincher, who did not return to the director’s chair for the sequel. Directing duties were instead taken up by Sorkin (who wrote both films).
The sequel follows the story of whistleblower Frances Haugen (played by Mikey Madison), who released thousands of internal Facebook documents to The Wall Street Journal and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) back in 2021. Haugen showed through the documents that Facebook leadership was aware of its algorithms radicalizing people and promoting harmful content, but chose to keep such research away from investors.
We will see if it’s good this fall!
Since I’m sharing “what I’m reading”, do you want to know how Chinese fortune cookies got their start? Of course you do, so here are some great books about food!
And I love travel books as well – especially wild memoirs like this one!
This expose of life on a mega cruise ship is hilariously shocking – see more here!
I also love great travel books that take me on magical journeys…like a brilliant one that takes us to the “roof of the world”:
The iconic Travel Writer Paul Theroux went there, and his book is eye-opening…one of many he has written that I own and love. Here are some of my favorites:
