Biting Down On National Burger Month 2026!
Ahhh…the pure joy of a fried onion smashburger! It is, of course, the month to pay homage to an America classic: fried meat in a bun with a variety of toppings!
As the world continues a monthlong celebration of “all things burger”, here is what I am doing:
Celebrating, Of Course!
I am making homemade smashburgers – with a recipe link below, and also eating some of the best burgers in America, like this one:

This uniquely stacked fried onion burger has taken New York by storm – I’ll show you why in a minute but first, I am heading out to McDonald’s to try their biggest burger ever!

Yes, I had to see if McDonad’s could “super size” a burger – this one weighs almost a pound! Watch as I struggle to get it out of the box with one hand!
So…how did “The Big Arch” do? In a word: delicious!
You can see the entire review – as I tasted the latest McDonald’s culinary treat in New York AND Ohio too!
See why I did that by reading my entire review here:
Well that was fun! I love trying all sorts of burgers, and some of them have to be seen – and eaten – to be believed, like this!

This is called a “Squeeze with Cheese” but how do they pull it off? See my review here!
I also have for you a uniquely stacked burger – thanks to Burger Historian and Iconic Burger Chef George Motz!

The legendary Motz wrote a great book on the best burgers in the US, and he opened his restaurant Hamburger America in New York…and I recently hung out with him!

My friend Vincent and I surrounded George as he celebrated the latest edition of his burger guide…and I happened to go back the next day as he was filming a special burger for a TV segment!
Motz loves burgers, and is perhaps the happiest guy ever behind a flattop grill!
Here he is caramelizing his raw onions and burger patties as he makes his classic fried onion burger!
I was there his first week open in 2023 – and he cooked for me! You can see more videos of George behind the grill – as well as my review of Hamburger America here!
As I showed you, I made a smashburger at home – here’s how easy it is plus some fun recipes as well!
I started this month of celebration with one of the wildest burgers I’ve ever made at home – and perhaps the most polarizing as well!
See the recipe here and tell me if this was a “burger too far!”

I had a double-patty ‘stacked-burger’ last Wednesday, John. It had added toppings of cheese, onion rings, and a fried egg. So I was definitely celebrating! Shared on Twitter.
Best wishes, Pete.
