When Alex and I were in Paris before our safari, we did what we always do when there: wander and see what we find – and on this occasion we found this!

Musical Floating Bowls!
Yes, that is a crowd of people sitting around a pool of water, listening as these bowl float by, hitting each other and making a noise like this:
The “clinamen” art installation from French Artist Celeste Boursier-Mougenot featured hundreds of white porcelain bowls floating in a large circular basin of water – so of course we had to see it!

The art installation was on display in the Rotunda of the Bourse de Commerce—Pinault Collection museum.

This 59-foot diameter pool was filled with water and installed in the museum’s Rotunda. A gentle current propelled the white porcelain bowls, causing them to collide and produce “melodious and incantatory sounds”. Take another listen:
Concept: The title clinamen is a term from Epicurean physics that refers to the random movement of atoms. The installation explores this concept by allowing the random, spontaneous collisions of the bowls to create an evolving, natural soundscape. Here’s a wide shot of the entire experience:

The exhibit just concluded, and I was glad to get all of these photos and video while it was still open…

OK, here is one more video with the bowls happily making music:
The “clinamen” art exhibit is just another example of how magical Paris is – but perhaps nothing will ever top this:
While you don’t see the Eiffel Tower show off like this every single night – like it did during the 2024 Olympics, when they do it…WOW!
Oh, and did you know that Paris has canals?

Well, we discovered them while wandering the city last year when Alex was working on the opening night of the 2024 Paris Olympics…here’s the fascinating history of this city’s canals!
We discovered these canals when in Paris for the Olympics, and so while Alex worked, I wandered the Paris streets – and look what I found:

Here’s what I ate while my wife did all the work!
I also played tourist, seeing incredible sights like this:

Not only did I capture this “upside down hangin out” shot, I also shot a video of Sacre Coeur – and I got photo bombed – watch!
Yep, I got photo bombed!
See more of my tour of Sacre Coeur here!

The ceiling of the rotunda is magnificent. I saw these interesting porcelain bowl videos on YT. They do make an unusual musical sound.

Yes, I knew about the canals in Paris and remember the Eiffel Tower light show during the Olympics – but had absolutely no idea about the musical bowls – what an offbeat idea for a classical museum! Oh, before I move on >>> do share a tad of that pistachio ice cream please . . .

I love the floating musical bowls. I am imagining them at night, when the museum is closed, and in darkness. That must be surreal! Only the security guards will be able to confirm that, but I’m sure is is something special.
Best wishes, Pete.
