Behold The Lobster Newberg!
Thanks to Taste Atlas for this photo, which shows the famous Lobster Newberg from New York’s oldest restaurant – Delmonico’s!
Why am I telling you all this? Because my good blogging friend Robbie Cheadle and I collaborated on a cooking adventure – with each one of us preparing and sharing a recipe that is unique to our part of the world! I will share a link to her amazing South African dish soon, but since I am in New York, that means I had to have a go at the iconic Lobster Newberg recipe that was created at New York’s oldest restaurant!

Welcome to Delmonico’s, New York’s oldest restaurant, located in the financial district near Wall Street.
It is inside this restaurant where the very first Lobster Newberg was created!
According to legend, Lobster Newberg was created by a salesman working in the Caribbean fruit trade, a man called Ben Wenberg in 1876! When he dined at the Delmonico one night, Wenberg asked the owner, Charles Delmonico, to let him demonstrate a recipe for lobster that he had discovered on his travels: and the Lobster Newberg was born!

Delmonico’s in New York hails itself as “America’s first restaurant.” We loved eating there, with the classic paintings in the dining room. One of the most popular meals you can order there is the Lobster Newberg which is rich and delicious, truly extravagant.
You can also order this:
That’s a “Baked Alaska”, also created at Delmonico’s!
As part of our collaboration, I needed to make a dish that reflected New York, and the Delmonico’s-created Lobster Newberg was going to be it!

I know what an amazing Chef Robbie is, so I had to make something that tried to measure up – and it has booze in it so there’s that as well…I shared the recipe on my “all food all the time” website and you can see how it went by clicking here:
As I said, this was a culinary collaboration with Robbie Cheadle, a terrific Chef and Author who shared this unique South African recipe with me – and I am going to make it soon:

Using many flavors frothier part of the world, Robbie made a Cape Malay Fish Curry – see it here!
I follow everything Robbie does, like this terrific collection of books she wrote with her son:

See more of her book there:
Robbie also writes terrific books, including this one, which is perfect for Halloween:

Robbie also takes part in horror anthologies, and you can see one of her best here:
Robbie’s work evokes some of the best supernatural horror writing of another great Author: Stephen King!
A classic horror story from King is “Salem’s Lot” – his second novel after “Carrie” and a classic work of horror fiction…click here to find out more:
As for Delmonico’s, you can see my entire review of a terrific meal we enjoyed there – just click on the story here:
