Would You Slide Down A “Swallow Hole?” Here’s Wild Video And A 550-Ft. High Suspension Bridge Too!

Ready For A Ride Into The “Swallow Rock?”

I love to travel. I love doing crazy things like climbing a Via Ferrata like this:

More on this adventure in a minute but back to the “swallow hole!”

Yes, it’s a rock that “swallows” you whole, and sends you into a secret cave!

I found this story online at The Daily Mail, and here is how they describe the phenomenon:

“Tourists are flocking to a Brazilian beauty spot where a boulder swallows you whole before spitting you out into a dark, secret cave.
The Pedra Que Engole – or Swallow Rock – is located in Trindale, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.”

What appears to be a small waterfall running through the rock is actually something amazing, as The Daily Mail describes:

“Daredevils have found that by squeezing your body into the cavity between the group of rocks, the water will send you into a secret cave.

And in the process thrillseekers are pushed through by the water in a mini slide. Then the explorer will find themselves in private, hidden cave big enough for around four people.”

Check out this video to see it as it happens:

How much fun would that be? Well, I guess it all depends on your comfort level with being swallowed and sent into a tiny cave like this!

Still, I was willing to do this:

A “Via Ferrata” is literally an “Iron Trail”, and my wife surprised me with it for my birthday a few years ago…and it ended this way:

Yes, once you reach the top you have to cross over to get back down!

See the entire wild adventure by clicking on my story here for more videos and pics!

We celebrated our climb with a great meal and wine – and months later Alex and I returned again, but this time to climb this terrifying peak in Utah’s Zion National Park:

Welcome To Angel’s Landing!

Yes, that is Alex pointing to the top of Angle’s Landing, more than 1,500 feet high!

We also did one of the coolest hikes ever – literally!

Yes, we hiked “The Narrows”, including large portions through the Virgin River!

Click here to see how we did!

And we live in California, where there are incredible nationals parks like Yosemite – with these incredible waterfalls!

I might consider climbing up, but sliding through an opening with something that has no give would be a pass.

  3. A definite no for getting swallowed into a cave, but I found your climb up Via Ferratta even more terrifying! The ‘bridge’ doesn’t look much wider than a balance beam and has an awful lot of open air on either side. Bravo to you! And gorgeous scenery, but I’d be happy to take pictures from below. 🙂

  4. I’m a decent swimmer, but a swallow hole is a young person’s sport.

  5. It’s a ‘No’ to the swallow hole from me, John. Being a non-swimmer, water adventures are not on my list. 👴

    Best wishes, Pete.
