Impaled Big Macs – “What The Friday?!”
OK everyone, you know I love love love all things Japan.
So when a food trend takes off there, I know it must be serious!
A few years ago, there was an Instagram trend in Japan – it involved taking a McDonald’s Big Mac and impaling it with a soft drink straw like so!
As you can see, it soon spread to Cheeseburgers as well!
Our friends at SoraNews24.com posted a story about this wacky new Japanese food trend – no instructions on how you are supposed to eat the burger, but I guess “aggressive nibbling” would be in order – and how did this get started and more importantly, WHY?
Well, no answer to that question, but Japan is known for wacky food trends so add this one to the list!
Thanks of course to SoraNews24 – click here to see more pics and tweets about this new phenomenon!
SoraNews24 also shared this other food trend going around a couple of years ago:
French Fry Parties!
That’s right, in S. Korea, the kids take over an entire table at McDonalds and fill it with fries – for the ultimo french fry party!
See more pics of that madness here:
Since I love to share food trends from Japan, remember this one?
Pancakes On A Stick!
What a great way to fix breakfast for th kids – or the kid in all of us! Silver Dollar Pancakes on a stick, with fresh fruit and toppings – see more pics here:

Yes, going for the pancakes on a stick too! When living in Beijing, I often saw a pizza slice impaled on a fork and eaten that way..

So many French fries, John, my goodness. The impaled big Macs look quite interesting but I imagine they are a challenge to eat. I’m going over to investigate these breakfast pancakes. Happy Friday, John.

That sounds like a lot of fun, John. We are gearing up here for a third wave of Covid, just in time for Easter. We are going to Ghost Mountain which is very remote so I’m hoping we won’t have to change our plans. I also hope to see my family this year for Good Friday and EAster Sunday. We spend last Easter all alone.

Have you ever had “silver dollar” pancakes? Basically little mini cakes that you can easily put on a skewer with fruit and anything else – more a kid’s thing but funny to me that they were big thing in Japan! Just like the “potato parties” in South Korea!
