Stanley Tucci TV Is Here!
My wife Alex had Stanley Tucci on her talk show, and they sent a sneak peek of one of the episodes of his new travel series fo rCNN, and let me tell you – it’s incredible!
The new series is called “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy”, and here’s what the press release says:
“It is a six-part CNN Original Series that follows Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci as he travels across Italy to discover the secrets and delights of the country’s regional cuisines. Viewers will go along with him as he enjoys the luxurious creamy carbonara of Rome, the delicious simplicity of Sicily’s pasta alla Norma, the saffron-infused silkiness of risotto in Milan, the crispy tenderness of bistecca alla fiorentina, the perfect classic ragu alla bolognese and the world’s best pizza in Naples.”
I saw the Naples episode and it’s beautifully done…
Like Anthony Bourdain, Tucci has a bottomless appetite for the region he explores, and in this case, we see him making Buffalo Mozzarella, Neopolitan Pizzas, and picking real San Marzano tomatoes off the vine!
You get a rich history and diversity of the cooking of Italy, along with a fascinating and sometimes very candid history of the region as well.
As The Actor says about the series:
“During a time when everyone wishes they could travel, the series will transport you through Italy’s cultural past and present through its extraordinary cuisine,” said Tucci. “The food tells the story of this country’s unique history and I’m thrilled to serve as a guide through this journey.”
In each episode, Tucci visits a different region or city of Italy, including Tuscany, Sicily, Milan, Rome, Bologna, and Naples/The Amalfi Coast.
You can see a teaser for the show on CNN’s Facebook page…strangely, even though the show premieres Sunday, they don’t have a clip easily accessible on YouTube…

This best compliment for the show is that Tucci’s love of food and culture are infectious, and we ended the episode planning to make two of the dishes we saw in the show!
Tucci is a well known food lover, and has several cookbooks…I bought this one for only reason, and if you read me often, you’ll what what it is:
The “Pasta Pie!”
This is a “Timpano”, and it’s an incredible dish that Tucci and fellow Actor Tony Shaloub make in the terrific film “Big Night”:
Both the film and the dish are terrific, and you can find out all you need to know about both by clicking on my story here:
I rally hope that CNN makes more show with Tucci: he’s personable and clearly passionate about the subject matter…as I said, he’s a worthy successor to this man:
Yes, Chef / Author Anthony Bourdain’s death was a shock to us all…and his TV travels are legendary…but his books are equally captivating:
He had memoirs, cookbooks and even fiction! Click here for a list of all of his published work:
If you want to try a different kind of travel show, then check out this mode of transportation:
Kevin Shelley sold all that he owned, bought a “Narrowboat”, and set out to explore England’s THREE THOUSAND MILES of canals!
It’s fascinating in a “low key” kind of way – the show is on Amazon Prime, and here’s a look at why you should be watching:

This sounds like a cookbook I’ll like, John. Was this series filmed recently, during Covid. Quite challenging if it was I’m sure.

Italians have it nailed: food is served in separate courses, pasta being first and salad last (to digest the food). America, wake up! The show will be wonderful, I’m sure.

Cindy, I think you’ll really like his approach…and he does a nice mix of stories as well…that said, I can’t trust any can of San Marzano tomatoes any more…you’ll see why!

Is this a bad time to say I don’t like pasta?
Oh and I’ve got the narrowboat travels on my to-watch list so thanks for the recommendation! x

Well, it’s much more than that! That said, any show about Italy is going to have it, right?!?! The “Narrowboat” show is fascinating..it’s VERY relaxing television – the boats barely go three miles an hour!

Pete, it should be on CNN there as well…really terrific. Not only food but a lot about politics and culture as well…he goes to one of the largest slums in Naples to see how they feed others in need there…fascinating stuff…

I don’t have access to CNN, John. But it might get picked up by a UK channel in time.

Yes, it is a cable/satellite channel. It is not in my current package, though I did have it in Lodon.
