Talk About “Turn Down” Service!
This week’s “Wednesday Bookmobile” wants to get away on vacation – to check into a nice Hotel and see what “turn down service” really means! When you entered a hotel, did you ever wonder the stories that lurked behind those walls?
Well, wonder no more! The “Anonymous” Manager of an exclusive boutique hotel exposes the low-life styles of the rich and famous. And that means a LOT of crazy shenanigans took place in your hotel room right before you checked in!
Hotel Babylon by Imogen Edwards-Jones AND Anonymous
“All of the following is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the guilty.”
How can you argue with that setup? Yes, if you love gossip, and some really unnerving tales of sordid Hotel living, then this is the hilariously entertaining book for you!
This may give you pause before you head out on vacation again, but let me tell you, it makes for a wildly entertaining read!
“Anonymous” had a lot of stories to tell, but you’ll never know who they are, in order for us to get real, sordid insight into a posh British hotel…
The anonymous author has encountered lavish drug parties, gorgeous call girls, naked guests falling out of windows, $9,000 bottles of wine, astronomical telephone porn bills, bathtubs of Evian, and on more than one occasion, dead sheep!
And every dirty word of it is true!
This is a trawl through the decadence and debauchery of the ultimate service industry ā where money not only talks, but gets you the best rooms, service, and covers a whole lot of sins!
This book is filled with stories of bad tippers, drug -fueled parties, obnoxious Billionaires and more, and it also gives a lot of interesting insight into what it takes to work in this “Service industry”. The expose was so successful in England that it spawned a hit TV series:
If you want even more wild stories of life in the tourism industry, then it’s time to hit the high seas!
Brian David Bruns was the ONLY American working below deck on a mega cruise ship – and he has written 4 books about that wild adventure!

I admit to an affinity for these sorts of books because they give me insight into areas of travel that I will never experience firsthand, like this:
That’s right, I will never be a flight attendant, so I read an expose that told the story about just how tough it is up there in “the friendly skies…”
Yes, there’s a book that tells all about life “up in the air”, and you can see that story here:

Stephen King has written about hotels and weird events in a few of his books, John, including The Shining and Rose Madder. I always think of those stories when I visit a hotel – they are burned into my mind. I am sure there are lots of ghosts in hotels.

That’s a GREAT point Robbie1. Hotels have a special place for horror to be sure! Remember I shared this story about a haunted hotel for Halloween! I’d stay there in an instant! https://johnrieber.com/2019/08/08/will-you-check-in-to-this-haunted-hotel-the-black-monarch-offers-rooms-and-scares-as-well/

I can only begin to imagine how some rich people might trash a room. Some of the poor people are bad enough! š
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, the stories they have…much like the tales you have about life as an EMT – what a world!
