Bite Down On “The Boomstick!”
With Major League Baseball back on the field, I am saddened that fans can’t attend in person – because that means they can’t enjoy some of the wildest food you can stuff in your face!
So how did I miss this? “What The Friday!!???” indeed!
Apparently, this TWO FOOT LONG hot dog has been for sale for years!
What started as a goofy food experiment at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas became instead one of their most popular food items — two-foot-long hot dog known as the “Boomstick!”
How Did It Get That Name?
While you might just assume that a hot dog that LOOKS like a “broomstick” would naturally be CALLED “The Boomstick!’ But there’s more!
The hot dog was named after the baseball bat that was used by Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz!
The $26 “Boomstick” is a 2-foot all-beef hot dog, smothered in chili, nacho cheese, jalapenos and caramelized onions, all on top of a massive potato bun. The whole thing weighs in at 3 pounds!
According to reports, the ballpark sold nearly 20,000 of the monster hot dogs during the 2012 season — the Boomstick’s inaugural year — raking in an estimated $500,000 in sales!
Even better, then Cruz was traded to the Minnesota Twins, THEY began selling “The Boomstick” too!
Would I bite down on “The Boomstick?”
Sure! I might not be able to finish it, but it would be fun to try! It reminds me of some of the other stadium food I’ve shared with you:
Yes, this is the “Gridiron Burger!” They sell it at Arizona Cardinal football games, and if you want to know what’s piled high on it, you can click here to see:
And these mega-dishes aren’t unique to the US!
Yes, this “Mega Yakitori” is from Tokyo, and it looks great! You can see what in it by clicking on my story here:

I hope that fans will be able to get back to supporting their teams in person as soon as safely possible – until then I will just have to dream about “The Boomstick!”

If I ever get to go back to a ball park, I’d only tackle something like this with some help – 2 or 3 others at least!

Pete, I’m not suggesting it’s an “everyday” meal, but this would be a blast to try, right? Hope you are staying safe and sane during this pandemic!
