Flying Over North Korea’s Colorful Capital!
North Korea is one of the world’s most isolated countries, a totalitarian regime that suppresses its citizens…not a place to admire or respect in any way.
That said, when I came across a fascinating aerial journey over its capital, I had to take a look – because Pyongyang is the showcase city of North Korea, and the way in which it has been designed is unique to say the least.
The Surreal Landscape Of Pyongyang!
Yes, these colorful buildings exist in North Korea’s capital, and one photographer was able to fly over them.
Soranews24.com tells the story of how it happened:
“The video was taken by Singaporean photographer Aram Pan with four DSLR cameras, and an Entaniya fisheye lens aboard an open-air microlight aircraft. Pan had been a frequent visitor to the normally secretive state and managed to get permission to survey the land with the help of its tourism bureaus.”
Here is the incredible video:
As always, the terrific website Soranews24.com had a great story about it – click here to see more of their reporting:
We will see what lies ahead for this country. They have made small steps towards “normalizing” relations with the rest of the world, and some have travelled here to see the country up close. If you ever decide to visit North Korea, which isn’t easy to do, you will be required to fly their national airline.
And this is what you will be served:
The “Koryo” Burger!
Yes, that’s your meal – the North Korean Airline’s version of a burger – and it’s the only thing they serve! So…what’s in it? Well, click on my story here to find out!
These stories don’t even begin to describe what life is like in this isolated country – but there is a book that does just that:
This terrific and sobering investigative reporting tells the real story of life inside North Korea, as told by the refugees who managed to escape…the day-to-day lives of most people are indeed “nothing to envy” – see more about this powerful book by clicking here:

Oo wow those pictures are amazing. The buildings look so well organized. I don’t think I will end up visiting North Korea for many reasons but it is interesting to see Pyongyang.

The people live horrible lives there, but if that ever changes, it would be fascinating to see

It is actually quite an attractive city, John. I don’t think I will ever visit though. South Korea was enough for me.

I couldn’t visit as long as the people there are forced to live under that oppression. But, the footage is interesting to say the least…thanks so much for commenting! Oh and I loved visiting South Korea!

Strange to see such a beautifully laid-out city in a country that is so crippled by poverty. It would be good if they opened up more. I’m sure many foreigners would like to see that country for themselves. I know I would!
Best wishes, Pete.

The book I reference in the story tells about what life is like there: while Pyongyang is their “model” city for the rest of the world, the remainder of the country lives in abject poverty and starvation…really shocking….but the aerial footage was interesting to me and I appreciate you commenting on it!
