Céline Dion Rocks The “Titanique!” This Hilarious Musical Hits Broadway – Here’s My Review!

Raise The “Titanique!”

After years off-Broadway, this hilarious musical “re-imaginging” of the film “Titanic” soars on Broadway!

Titanique” just launched what they call “a strictly limited 16-week engagement” at the St. James Theatre in New York City.

Trust me: there’s no iceberg sinking this show – it will be extended and extended and extended, because it’s a hilarious, affectionate and raucous feel good musical gem!

This award-winning parody musical reimagines the 1997 film Titanic through the eyes of Céline Dion, who “hijacks” a museum tour to share her version of what really happened to Jack and Rose—all set to her iconic pop catalog!

A “Star-Studded” Broadway Cast – Led By The Show’s Creators!!

After years being performed off-Broadway, the Broadway transfer is a great story, because it features several original co-creators of the show, alongside major celebrities:

  • Marla Mindelle (Co-creator) as Céline Dion. She is hilariously funny and has a great voice – oh, and she sounds like Celine in the best way too! It’s a warm, affectionate and goofy homage – and the device works perfectly to allow a “sped up” recap of the film! I love that she is one of the show’s original creators as well!
  • Jim Parsons as Ruth DeWitt Bukater.

What a terrific casting choice! Jim “Big Bang Theory” Parsons has a blast playing Rose’s Mom, who just wants her daughter to marry a rich guy!

  • Melissa Barrera as Rose DeWitt Bukater.

Melissa is a powerful “Rose”, of course the role played in the film by Kate Winslet…she has a terrific voice a great comic timing! Of course, in the film Rose falls in love instead with the poor guy Jack, who is played here by the other show’s creator! And he is terrific!

  • Constantine Rousouli (Co-creator) as Jack Dawson. His voice is powerful, his physical comedy terrific, and as with the other main cast members, he is in almost every scene!

That said, there were many moments for other stories shine, including the most powerful performance of the night!

  • Deborah Cox as Unsinkable Molly Brown. Cox has a solo near the end that blows the audience away – and because the musical is filled with so many inside jokes, there are many references to Kathy Bates and all of her movie roles, as Bates played this part in the film!
  • Frankie Grande as Victor Garber and Luigi as well. Yes, he plays Victor Garber, the name of the Actor who played the ship’s designer in the film – another of the many funny, inside jokes the show has with the movie!
  • Layton Williams reprising his Olivier Award-winning role as “The Iceberg!” Layton has multiple roles, including the “Seaman” – and yes, they have a lot of raunchy fun with that…but he steals the musical when he arrives as the “Iceberg” that sinks the Titanic – it’s a showstopper!

As with all Broadway shows, no photos or videos are allowed at all – except during the curtain call – so here is that:

But here is the GREAT part: after the curtain call, the cast launches into “My Heart Will Go On” one more time, calling for the audience to sing along AND telling everyone to film away and have fun, so they did – and I did too!

What a great night…and what a fascinating story of how this funny little spoof of a beloved film became a massive Broadway hit!

Here is how the show came to be a phenomenon!

  • Origins (2017–2019): Premiered as a one-night concert at LA’s Sorting Room Theater in 2017, later playing New York’s Green Room 42 in 2018.
  • The Maiden Voyage (2021): A virtual streaming concert held during the pandemic, featuring the core creative team, which cemented the show’s popularity.
  • Off-Broadway Smash (2022–2025): Opened at The Asylum Theatre in June 2022 before transferring to the Daryl Roth Theatre. It won several awards, including Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Musical and Lead Performer for Marla Mindelle.
  • A larger production premiered in London and won major awards for all involved. It is still running there today, in a theater located in Piccadilly Circus!
  • Broadway Transfer (2026): Premiered on Broadway at the St. James Theatre on March 26, 2026, with an expanded production.
  • The show run just under two hours with no intermission – which works because the energy and humor never let up!
  • Show Style: here’s how it was described on social media: a “campy” musical comedy where Céline Dion (played by Mindelle) narrates the story of Jack and Rose. Yes, it is, but it’s so much more and really worth a watch!

Here’s a another show we saw on Broadway with a “photo op” curtain call:

Bruce Springsteen was joined by his wife Pati Scialfa when he did his one-man show on Broadway a few years ago…an incredible, intimate night of stories and music…see more about it here:

I also shared a deliciously tasty Musical we saw on Broadway a while back:

The cult movie “Waitress” was turned into a musical, with songs by Sara Bareilles…it was a blast!

I shared a bunch of the pie recipes from the movie and the musical here – so you can make them yourself at home – enjoy!

  2. Sounds unusual. I remember once sitting in the theatre on a cruise ship along with hundreds of other people. We were all practising for an emergency and all had orange lifejackets on. I couldn’t help but laugh and say that all we needed now was for Celine Dion to start singing!

  3. Sorry, John. It’s a big “No” from me. I couldn’t stand the Cameron film, and hated the Dion song too. Every time anyone mentions that film, it just makes me want to watch this wonderful earlier film instead.
