Bruce Springsteen! Martin Scorsese! “Dancing In The Dark”, “Springsteen On Broadway” And The Creative Process!

Springsteen And Scorsese Get Creative!

As the Emmy Award season gets underway, some of television’s biggest events are being discussed and promoted, as was the case for Bruce Springsteen, as he promotes his “Springsteen On Broadway” Netflix special.

As Deadline.com reports:

Two legends who exemplify their respective mediums sat down Sunday in Los Angeles on opening night of Netflix’s FYSEE event, and the streamer just released some video. Check out a clip of Bruce Springsteen discussing the mystery of the creative process with Martin Scorsese above and a tease of the Boss doing a solo acoustic performance of “Dancing in the Dark” below.

“If you’re very, very fortunate and good at your job, you capture a small piece of the divine,” the Grammy-winning New Jersey rocker tells the Oscar-winning New York filmmaker, who agrees. “It’s why the creative process has never been will and never be explained.”

That latter pearl of wisdom makes Scorsese beam. The director also agrees with what the Springsteen on Broadway star, who turns 70 in July, says a little later about that “small, small piece of the divine”: “I think when audiences walk out of a film that’s really moved them or hear a piece of music, that’s what you get to bring to them. And you bring it to yourself, you know? It’s like, ‘I can’t do it for you unless I’m doing it for me.”

Of course, when you are Bruce Springsteen, you can grab a guitar and show everyone what you mean…

Here is the clip of Bruce doing “Dancing In The Dark” from Deadline.com:

Of course, if you just want to see the original iconic video, I have that as well:

Yes, let’s go back to 1987, when a pre-“Friends” Courtney Cox jumps on stage to dance with “The Boss”:

Here is the original music video for the song:

My wife Alex and I saw “Springsteen On Broadway” and were amazed at how fascinating Springsteen’s storytelling was – and it’s a great moment when he performs with his wife, Patti Scialfa:

If you haven’t seen the special yet, it’s terrific – lots of poignant stories about Bruce’s upbringing, the importance of family, and the creative process – and he’s really funny!

I posted a story about his brilliant album “The Rising”, dealing with America after 9/11 – one of Bruce’s masterpieces…you can read about it here:

Make sure to check out the “Springsteen On Broadway” special!

  1. Dancing in the Dark video was 1984 and Bruce will turn 70 in September 2019

  2. I love these kind of events, Netflix had Letterman and Seinfield do it last year and it was better than his new show. I have seen the Broadway special and although some spots my interest waned, I wholeheartedly agree with you that he is a great storyteller. Talking about his Mum and Dad I particularly loved. It must have been amazing to be in the crowd. Nice going John.

  5. This is not going to be a popular comment, but I am not a lover of Springsteen. Although I did buy ‘Dancing In The Dark’ on a .45 single, I soon tired of it. That said, the combination highlighted is bound to leave fans with a Netflix film to cherish.
    Best wishes, Pete.
