Welcome To Paris Art Capital Of The World…
This shot of the river Seine with the Eiffel Tower captures the serenity of a beautiful city that is also alive with art…literally!
The Mona Lisa portrait is one of the world’s most famous works of art. As wikipedia notes:
The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait painting by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. Considered an archetypal masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance, it has been described as “the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, [and] the most parodied work of art in the world.” The painting’s novel qualities include the subject’s enigmatic expression, monumentality of the composition, the subtle modelling of forms, and the atmospheric illusionism.
Here is what it’s like to see it at the Louvre Museum in Paris:
Located at the end of a large hall, it is always surrounded by hundreds of fans, who take a lot of pictures of the painting, which is secured behind glass.
An interesting trend has formed: where pictures are not only taken of this great work of art, but of the people who are looking at this great work of art!
Mona Lisa Selfies!
Yes, you see this happening in front of the portrait by literally everyone who visits!
So, in a world where the Mona Lisa becomes a great backdrop for a selfie, it was perhaps times for Mona Lisa herself to get in on the action:
As you can see, Mona is down for it…let’s go outside the Louvre Museum, where I found this incredible work of interactive art:
When my wife Alex and I were in Paris once, we came across this massive work of art, an interactive Mona Lisa…what do I mean? Well, take a look:
We thought this interactive work of art was pretty cool!
Some may find this manipulation of art wrong, but again, in a world where more people seem to be taking selfies with Mona lost in the background, why not give her center stage again?
A timeless work of art to be sure…and while you are in Paris, why not go here as well?

Ahhhh I’ve actually seen Mona Lisa when I was in Paris once! Yes there’re so many people in front of Mona Lisa picture, protected by a couple of guards in front of it. I almost regretted I didn’t bring binocular…I was surprised how far it was!!😂
That talking Mona Lisa! In my home country there’re usually Mona Lisa and other couple of famous portraits were hanged in art room, and Bach, Mozart, Beethoven’s portraits in music room. We made joke they talk in the nights, but looks like it’s now a kind of art/technology😁

I saw the Mona Lisa as a teenager in Paris. I was struck by how small her portrait is. An animated Mona can spark an interest in the painting (and art), and of course that’s terrific. Great post, John!

If there had been cell phones back then, I’m sure I would have taken a selfie, too. Interestingly, the shock at the size has made me appreciate art and museums. For example, Birth of Venus is gigantic, almost bigger than life. Who would know if they had not been to the Uffizi in Florence.

Interesting post, Joh – that interactive Mona Lisa is creepy! We went to Paris, had lunch at the top of the Eiffel Tower, but did not visit The Louvre.

I saw the Mona Lisa as a teenager visiting Paris, and I was very ‘unimpressed’ to say the least. There’s nothing wrong with the modern ‘animated’ Mona, but I do find it a little creepy!
