A bit of a shameless plug here…I wanted to share a few food stories I posted this week on my food blog – because they were fun and unique food adventures for me that were worth repeating!
A “Human Conveyor Belt” For Heel!
Now, here is my unique Eel story.
I took my wife to Tokyo a few years ago: my 5th time there and her first. Upon arrival, Alex wanted some Eel, so I found a terrific Eel restaurant – located on the top floor of a department store, where a dozen restaurants are located for a nice dinner after shopping!
Oh and this restaurant serves Eel and ONLY Eel!
Of course, it is so popular that you must wait outside in an “eel waiting room”…thirty chairs lined up in a large open rectangle at the entrance…I signed the wait list, and since the charts were full we stood.
The the most hilarious thing happened: when they called the next couples name, the two closest to the door got up…what a coincidence I thought…except then EVERYONE else got up and slid over two!
That’s right: when the person at the front of the line is called in, everyone slides over! It’s a “Human Heel Conveyor Belt”!
Click here to see what we ate after we got off the human conveyor!
Thanks to a terrific Blogger, I discovered that one of Hollywood’s most Iconic Actresses loved to cook – and there’s a cookbook to prove it!
Cooking With Joan Crawford!
Well, this was a delight to discover – there is a cookbook that celebrates the iconic Actress Joan Crawford’s love of food!
A huge “thank you” to the blog “Realweegiemidget Reviews”, which shares this information and review of this great cookbook by Author Jenny Hammerton!
As they posted:
“The content of this book, I am about to review – advocates a surprising but true fact. It’s one truism which appears less documented in all of these visual and written mediums. In her book, this author documents that Joan Crawford was a domestic goddess in the kitchen. It seems that Joan loved cooking for anyone and everyone (and she was even famed for her coleslaw). These are just a few of those many amazing culinary facts about this actress, which I learnt from my cookery book-writing friend, Jenny Hammerton.”
As you can see from this scene from the classic melodrama “Mildred Pierce”, Crawford was comfortable in the kitchen…I am beyond excited to order this cookbook and cook something from it – and of course I will share it here!
Click here for more details on this cookbook, which I just ordered from Amazon!
Finally, living in New York is a blast because you never know when you will run into food – especially food you never imagined!
Yes, Times Square was home to a giant Frankfurter!
The hot dog actually would rise up at one end to tower over people, and I got some footage of just that!
Here is some much-needed history of the hot dog, thanks to the Times Square Arts group:
“Introduced to the American masses by central European immigrants as a working-class street food in the 1800s, the hot dog has since become synonymous with contemporary American culture — a staple at baseball games and Fourth of July celebrations, and even employed as a tool of US international relations, referred to as “hot dog diplomacy.” As a symbol and a street cart offering, the hot dog is also a mainstay throughout Times Square and a New York City icon, akin to the yellow taxi cab, the pretzel, the deli cup, and the Playbill.”
Here is another walk around of the giant Frankfurter:
While it is gone now, I will always have this footage to remind me of my encounter with the giant Frankfurter…see the details behind this fascinating work of art here:
One last plug, but for this site: I have been reviewing all of the James Bond 007 films in order and I am up to the fifth Bond Pierce Brosnan…here was my review of his turn as the British Secret Agent with a license to kill:

Who knew Joan Crawford was a foodie? My cousin in his car actually ran alongside the Oscar Mayer weiner-mobile ages ago.

John, I have been weirdly banned by Twitter, but they have created an account for me with no follows or followers. I have no idea why or how that happened, (other than some kind of login issue that I do not understand) but your post was shared on my strange new account anyway. You might discover the link, but then again, it may be in Musk’s X-wallet.
Best wishes, Pete.
