Happy July 4th! – Or Not?
Well, it’s supposed to be a day of celebration, as America acknowledges its independence….sadly, the absolutely disgraceful recent actions by those in positions of power – or those attempting to come into positions of power – have cast a dark pall over the proceedings. More than ever before, we all need to remember this:
We can have different opinions and still live as one country, and also remember that we all share the same planet so here’s to mutual respect and shared goals worldwide as well!
And before we get too “closed off” to the world, let’s not forget the greatest July 4th film, “Independence Day”, was directed by Roland Emmerich, a German filmmaker!
July 4th is the day Americans celebrate the creation of the United States Of America – a new way of governing – and we will see lots and lots of fireworks, parties and more…
As I said, lots of celebrating across the country, with lots of different food, but one kind seems to dominate:
Whether you live in the US, or just want to have a burger, here are recipes for burgers of all shapes and sizes – from all around the world, because we are all in this together:
Happy 4th of July to everyone who celebrates and whether you do or not, here are two great recipes from our “founding foodies!”

Happy 4th, John. Yes, the movie Independence Day is (in my opinion) the greatest July 4th movie. We did traditional burgers and dogs on the grill. Have you ever sliced a dog in half lengthwise and put it on your burger? So good! We’ll be watching Pops Goes the 4th, the Boston Pops in concert at the Esplanade in Boston. It’s a tradition!

I haven’t done the hot dog recipe you mention but now I’m obsessed and will do so indeed!

I agree with Pete! And good luck with your election – or this may be the last true Independence Day 🥲

I am not much of a church goer but after the recent debate, my thoughts are turning to prayer. Prayer for our great democracy.

It is such a mess and truly evil people trying to take away rights…shameful.

Well said, John. Hoping we get through this time, and that in the end, goodness and reasonableness prevail.

Thanks…so much anger and hate in the world, yet every day people gather with friends and family in joyous circumstances…need a lot more perspective than we have right now.

For anyone who follows our problems, they know what we are going through…curious to see what’s ahead for your country as well…what happened to good people leading?

Hopefully, we will be getting rid of the money-grabbing, openly corrupt gang who have run the country into the ground for the past 14 years. The alternative may not be ideal, but I will take it over what we had.
Best wishes, Pete.
