Some Beverly Hills 90210 Wildlife!
We live just two miles north of the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Boulevard.
We have deer. Many people don’t realize that the “Hills Of Beverly” actually have a lot of wildlife: Deer, Coyotes, Rattlesnakes and more…so when my wife Alex and I went for a walk up our hill the other day, here is who we encountered:
Sadly, construction containers are a common sight in the area, as houses, when sold, are torn down to create massive new structures that take years to build…oh well, back to the Deer.
They come by the house as well:
It’s a great way to remember how close we are to the wild…yet also so close to 30-million others!
This was my view one morning from the top of Beverly Hills – looking at a sunrise over downtown Los Angeles…see the video and more here:
The sunsets are also pretty amazing as well…
The moon will also rise over Beverly Hills, leaving everything bathed in a dark blue hue…
This “closer you are to the wild the closer the wild is to you” with my neighborhood deer was a heartwarming moment…another one not so much:
See the rattlesnake curled up in the middle of this shot?
It was hissing, rattling, and coiling – and we were in Beverly Hills!
See the incredible beauty of Franklin Canyon and our run-in with a rattler by clicking here:
A much more enjoyable encounter happened when we were joined for breakfast by a Sea Otter:
This guy enjoyed his meal for a half hour right off the central California coast – see some video of him by clicking here:
I was in Malibu and had a fun Dolphin encounter as well:
It had me wondering:
How do they sleep?

I learned something new. I didn’t realize Beverly Hills had a wooded area. I don’t understand why some people enjoy killing those poor creatures.

Yes, the hills go up to Mulholland Drive and then over into the “valley”….the Santa Monica Mountains go all the way from the ocean to the west to Griffith Park near downtown LA! Lots of wildlife, including bears and mountain lions! Agree that shooting an animal is horrible, especially for sport

Magnificent shots, John! I particularly like the ones overlooking Beverly Hills. We live near a wooded area, and the deer visit us regularly.

Yes, the view is spectacular…love having deer nearby, reminds me that we are only renting this planet alongside them!

Great to see the deer so close to the house. Less so the rattler. We have many Adders just across the road on Beetley Meadows, a poisonous snake. They will only bite if threatened though.
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes Pete, I’m not a fan of the rattlesnakes and I’ve been lucky that none have been seen near my house but they are around to be sure!

You have the best of both worlds, especially the grand view. Rattlesnakes must be terrifying.

I wish they were. BIT more of a rare sighting but sadly no…did you see that “The Princess Bride” Actor Carey Elwes was bitten last month IN THIS MALIBU BACKYARD?!?!? The got an ambulance to him in time, but he was in his garden!

Beautiful!! Always a treat to see deer on a morning walk. Not so sure about bobcat and mountain lions!

Well, they really don’t like people but they are out there! Rattlesnakes are a bit more worrisome!

I love deer and enjoy seeing them in yards and streets. There are many in my home town of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Beverly Hills deer must be classy and perhaps looking for a part in a wildlife film. You sure do get fabulous sunsets.

We had a Bobcat recently and many don’t know that mountain lions reside in LA’s Griffith Park as well!
