Welcome To Paradise!
That’s Morro Rock, sitting in Morro Bay California, located on the central coast…the beach here leads all the way to Cayucos, an incredible town with a gorgeous pier:
Our first morning here, we were watching the ocean roll in and suddenly saw someone staring back at us, and it wasn’t a surfer:
Yes, this Sea Otter was giving me a look – before getting back to what his real purpose was: to feat on the best of the Pacific Ocean!
While literally only a few feet off shore, this Otter didn’t seem to care that I was shooting pictures, and I got a great video as well!
Here is the video. Note that after the Sea Otter goes under for more food, I’ll give you a quick panoramic view of the beach, including the incredible Morro Rock – then I get back just as our Otter reappears with more food!
Enjoy:
As you can see, when the morning clouds lifted, the incredibly pristine beach from Cayucos to Morro Bay was an incredible sight – as was this surfer getting ready for his daily ride in the show of Morro Rock:
While we don’t surf, we did love walking for more than 7 miles along the beach, and I did climb a rock to two myself:
And because the tide was going out, we were left with a lot of sea kelp that washed ashore:
Surfers are out early here, and for good reason – there are great waves to ride – oh, and at the end of the day, nature gives you this as well:
I shared an earlier story all about this town – and a tour of Cayucos as well – you can see it by clicking on my story here:

Lots of otters up here in Humboldt County, John. I saw the strangest thing a couple of weeks ago. You have to imagine a hill that goes approximately a mile up. Most of the way up the hill, there are houses on both sides. At the bottom of the hill, there is a creek on one side and a neighbor’s big field on the other. I was driving down the hill the other day, and at the bottom of the hill, I saw an animal making the inchworm move across the road from one side to the other. It was an otter going across the paved road to the field. The field is the lowest land around the area and often has water in it after it rains. Bizarre sight!

I live those sea otters, and the way they relax on their back to eat. I have only seen them on TV though, so I am suitably jealous of your ‘live show’, John. š
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, he showed up two mornings in a row, was literally twenty feet from shore and I was kicking myself for not bringing a good camera to capture it…but he was as relaxed and happy as an Otter can be! Hope all is well there!

Yes, and once the morning grey burnt off, it was gorgeous – although we love the muddy morning walk for miles and miles along the beach!
