Get Ready For Fried Fish Nirvana!
That’s my wife Alex, excited for me to share a wildly delicious sandwich from one of the coolest outdoor eating venues that Los Angeles has to offer:
A “Smorgasburg!”

“Smorgasburg LA” is the largest weekly open-air food market in America, with markets in New York and Los Angeles attracting 50,000 people each weekend to eat
As they describe their terrific venue:
“Smorgasburg is now open every Sunday, 10am-4pm, at ROW DTLA a new developement in Downtown Los Angeles.Find dozens of exciting food vendors each Sunday at Smorgasburg, plus sophisticated shopping from the realms of design, craft, style, vintage, wellness, and more. Cultural events, pop-ups, and other surprise experiences will also be part of the market mix!”
Alex and I headed down to experience this for ourself – driven by Alex’s awareness of a specific vendor she knew I’d love!
“Little Fish” launched as a “pop up” restaurant in the Echo Park neighborhood in 2020…they have built a reputation as the best fried fish sandwich in Los Angeles – so we had to find out for ourselves!
They are one of the dozens of great pop up eateries located here every weekend.
We placed our order: Alex thought we could split one, but C’MON:
Alex grabbed one more shot of her sandwich before we dug in:
This is a great fish sandwich! The fish itself is meaty, the breading is light and crisp, and the pickles are fresh, tart and very crisp as well, and there are a lot of there, which I love!
The slightly spicy mayonnaise helps everything “pop” just the right amount…and it’s look gorgeous on the bun in front of Alex as well!
Bravo to Little Fish – I can’t wait to dig in again!
In order to digest our incredible meal, I took a short stroll to show you some of the other terrific pop up restaurants here:
Here are some of the unique food stalls serving each weekend:
I love that I got a shot of a guy getting a shot of his “Smoke Queen BBQ” – whose Chef Winnie Yee-Lakhani was on The Kelly Clarkson Show!
We stopped to talk with her and, even though I had just eaten a big fish sandwich, she made me try some of her smoky brisket – delicious!
More on her incredible story to come!
As you can see, this place is packed with great food Artists:
The outdoor is also filled with great shopping – vintage clothing, jewelry, candles, and of course, VINYL!
After eating, Alex and l picked up a few used albums, and then she allowed me to get one last shot of her to remember our day:
I cannot recommend Smorgasburg LA highly enough: a great vibe, terrific food and a safe way to be outside in the sun!
Since you are already downtown, why not get another picture this way?
That’s right, enter this book tunnel for a whole new way to see literature!
It’s at the incredible “Last Book Store” in downtown Los Angeles – click here to see more of the cool stuff inside!
Of course, I have shared some of my favorite food from around the country as well, like this incredible slab of fish and chips from Chicago:
Big ‘n’ Little’s delivered the goods – oh, and they make a “Big Mack Daddy” Burger to die for as well – and you can see how by clicking on my story here:

This looks like a great place to visit and eat, John. So busy, places are rarely busy like this in SA.

We have 30-million people in the Southern California area, Robbie – EVERYWHERE IS BUSY!

Lots of places are very quiet here. That is what I like about SA.

It was really fun and we will go back to be sure!
Lots of parking right there – and that’s not usual for LA!

I haven’t had a good fish sandwich in ages. I love this place! You could spend hours eating and shopping. Thanks, John! I look forward to your post on the chef who makes the brisket.

I would eat all of that food quite happily, John. I am 15 minutes away from a home-cooked Indian chicken curry. With Basmati rice, and Coriander naan bread!
Ready to eat the lot…
Best wishes, Pete.
