It’s that time of year again, where much needed attention is called to the fact that censorship is very much alive and well. I have a crazy week ahead of me, so I won’t be spending as much time up on my soapbox as I have in previous years regarding this, but check out this list of the top ten most frequently banned and challenged books of 2019.

I knew you would! Rob is a great source of historical oddities about London. He doesn’t post often, and is worth following.

The number of banned children’s books would make your head spin… like “Charlotte’s Web.”

it is just so mind-blowing. a couple of years ago, i took my oldest grandson to the classic detroit library, very old school and beautiful. they had shelves dedicated to all of the books banned over the years. he is a huge reader and could not believe it when i explained that this is real thing.

Interesting – I’ve never heard of Banned Books Week before. That being said, I took a course about censorship in college and really enjoyed it. We read through books that had been banned for a number of reasons, discussing why that decision was made and whether or not we support that level of censorship. I’m really interested in digging into this and trying something new!

It’s interesting to see the reasons: social, political, religious, or just language deemed offensive…thanks for commenting, always great to hear from you!
