“Cruising Attitude” Rips The Lid Off Modern Airline Travel! My Weekly Wednesday Bookmobile Hits The Runway!

Talk About Flying The “Friendly Skies!”

Yes, this is a real ad for an airline – talk about making their product more appealing!

Today’s “Weekly Wednesday Bookmobile” talks about what it’s REALLY like to work in the airline industry!

In the 60’s, flying was certainly more exotic, as you can see – but the current state of affairs on a plane are anything but “friendly skies”, and a great memoir shows you life inside the cockpit!

Cruising Attitude: Tales of Crashpads, Crew Drama, and Crazy Passengers at 35,000 Feet by Heather Poole

Ever wonder what your flight attendant REALLY thinks? Well, wonder no more! Attendant turned Author Heather Poole offers a look at what it is like to work the not-so-friendly skies…

In her more than fifteen years as an airline flight attendant, Heather Poole has seen it all. She’s witnessed all manner of bad behavior at 35,000 feet and knows what it takes for a traveler to become the most hated passenger onboard.

The romantic vision of a first class flying experience is shattered quickly….Poole has slept in flight attendant crashpads in “Crew Gardens,” Queens—sharing small bedrooms crammed with bunk beds with a parade of attractive women who come and go at all hours, prompting suspicious neighbors to jump to the very worst conclusions.

She’s watched passengers and coworkers alike escorted off the planes by police. She can tell you why it’s a bad idea to fall for a pilot but can be a very good one (in her case) to date a business-class passenger.

Heather knows everything about flying in a post-9/11 world—and she knows what goes on behind the scenes, things the passengers would never dream.

Heather’s true stories in “Cruising Attitude” are surprising, hilarious, sometimes outrageous as well — the very juiciest of “galley gossip” delightfully intermingled with the eye-opening, unforgettable chronicle of her fascinating life in the sky.

And don’t forget, every Wednesday I will post another great book to consider – like this one:

Yes, the biography of the world’s FIRST Celebrity Chef, who routinely made feasts that involved more than 100 dishes! Read more about Chef Careme here:

  1. It’s probably against my better judgement but i’m juggling 3 books now::
Lyndon Johnson: Master of the Senate by Robert Caro.
War on Peace by Ronan Farrow
Authority by Jeff VanderMeer part of a trilogy that the movie Annihilation was based on.

And I well remember Pacific Southwest Airlines. When I was a kid it’s what we flew from San Francisco to visit Disneyland.

  2. I am reading a thriller at the moment, ‘Look Behind You’, by Sibel Hodge.
I am sure that all flight attendants have many interesting stories to tell. We even have a weekly ‘behind the scenes’ TV show, about the budget airline ‘Easyjet’. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
