What A Cute Baby Elephant!
One of the most fascinating aspects of a Safari is seeing all of the young babies out in the wild: in our 19 days across 3 countries and 5 safari lodges, we were continually amazed by the number of babies we encountered.
There were small, happy babies everywhere: from Elephants to Hippos, Zebra, Lion Cubs and Giraffes too!

Watch this as we come across a Giraffe following her young one – we catch up to their grazing after dark near our Singita Boulders lodge…keep watching for our happy surprise as the baby Giraffe appears and walks past our Jeep:

And watch closely to the end of this video showing a troop of Baboons wandering across the Singita Sabi Sands plains in South Africa…a baby is hanging on underneath Mom!

Another fascinating animal is the Warthog: who knows how old they are, they all seem the same size to me – anyway, here are a few that just watch us warily for a moment before going back to their meal:
And what about these two young Elephants: is it affection, horsing around, or a game of “tug of war?”

We also happened upon a baby Rhino with its Mom…note the horns are gently shaved down to prevent poaching – it doesn’t hurt at all and makes them less likely to be hunted:
Finally, here are two young Lions ambling back over to Mom to cuddle after a mid-day meal:

We loved seeing how affectionate the Lions were – well, when they weren’t eating – here is a close encounter we had with a pride of Lions finishing a kill when a fight broke out:
We also chased down some rarely spotted wild dogs of all ages…see our wild ride here:
I also want to reiterate that these safaris help protect wildlife – click here to find out more about the positive impact safari’s have on the animals and the local villagers who live here as well:
Yes, all of this made me hungry – so what do you eat on a safari? What about “Biltong?”

Methinks some of these baby cuties are almost harder to resist than human ones . . . I could sit there and happily watch for hours . . . 🙂 !
