It’s Summer – And All Food Bets Are Off!
I found this image online years ago, and for me it sums up the summer: time to have fun, let your hair down – or in this case, curl it with hot dogs!
Or perhaps you want to make yours this way:

Spiral!
When the temperatures rise, and this summer they are rising A LOT – I look for ways to distract myself, with spiral hot dogs and even these:

This is a fun way to play with your food – like threading your spaghetti with hot dog chunks prior to cooking! As July is National Hot Dog month, I looked at some of the best ways to celebrate – check them out here!
It’s also a very hot month, so I want to make food that is more refreshing – like this chilled corn and tomato salad!

Time To Shuck!
Yes, that’s me with one of the ears of corn I’ll be shucking….and since they were from the Farmers Market, I knew they were fresh!
This is my favorite part – when I get to strip them down – you can’t hurt them and it’s fun too:
I put them in boiling water for 5 minutes, then I let them cool and I cut off the kernels…that’s also fun as well – here’s a look at the entire process:
Next, add the kernels to a large bowl with the tomatoes, cucumber, onion, feta, and basil….
Pour dressing over the corn then toss to combine. Taste and add more salt and pepper as needed, garnish with some additional basil le
Here’s that last step:

This is a really fresh and fun salad to share on a special day – and it’s very colorful as well….you can see the entire recipe with step-by-step instructions here:
And of course, it’s the “way too hot” heat of the summer for many of us, and if you need to cool off, why not do it – with food?

Yes, I own a few “food floats” – and why not?
Sydney and Luke flew high above our pool, knowing a slice of pizza was waiting to catch them!
I love food floats, like the slice of pizza one I own – see some of the wackiest ones here:
That’s what I have going on with food this summer!

Yes you are wintering and it sounds like not a bad way to do so! In LA the winters never get below 60!

You had me fancying hot dogs so much over the weekend that I bought some frankfurters today. I am going to have them tomorrow in ‘Hot Honey Brioche Sub Rolls’, which are all the rage here now. Slightly sweet, and also slightly ‘hot’. Shared on Twitter, John.
Best wishes, Pete.

That sounds great Pete! We made some and everyone loved them – heated up in water, then put into a hot skillet for two minutes to sear…delicious!
