Holy Cow! Celebrating “National Burger Month” With A New Taste Test!
Behold a classic Holy Cow burger – a restaurant chain in New York that was my “taste test” to kick off “National Burger Month” – yes, we will be celebrating the burger for the entire month of May!
That will keep me busy all month long, beginning here!

Here’s the history from their website:
Holy Cow is a burger joint born in the Lower East Side neighborhood of New York City in 2018. Since then we’ve expanded into Queens, Long Island, and New Jersey! Our burgers are made with the highest quality meat and our customers especially love that we offer Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-Free options!

They add this:
“We strive to elevate the burger experience through exceptional ingredients, sustainable practices, and a commitment to inclusivity, all while staying true to our New York roots. Our goal is to bring people together over food that’s fast, flavorful, and made with care.”
Let’s check it out!

I visited their outlet on the upper west side of Manhattan, just steps from the north end of Central Park. I’m greeted inside by a colorful wall of imagery – and a menu that offers a lot of options:

The menu offers burgers, chicken, chopped cheese burgers and sandwiches as well:

They also offer lots of vegetarian and vegan burgers as well, and pride themselves for making the buns in-house…as it was my first time here, I wanted to try a classic burger to start, along with some “cheese fries.” For me, how they make their fries means everything!
Here’s what was delivered to my table:
Two immediate points: first, the burger patty wasn’t completely round-shaped, so it didn’t fit the entire bun on the left side…but there was plenty of beef and I shifted it a bit and it was fine! Now, about those fries:

“Holy Cow” Indeed!
Wow, what a cheesy delight! These fries were a grand slam home run!

They were really smothered with a rich, cheese sauce: not only was it flavorful, but I had plenty for every fry: and as for those fries, they were clearly twice cooked, giving them a delightfully crispy exterior but a creamy center in each one!

My burger was well seasoned and very flavorful: there were plentiful pickles, grilled onion and cheese inside, and a big plump slice of tomato.

I found the burger to be very flavorful and well seasoned – it makes me want to go back and get their specialty “Holy Cow” burger…and the fries were incredibly good – a real standout!

I love to rad about burgers, and the history of them as well..and thanks to the terrific “Burger Beast” website, I can do just that!

He wrote the history of burgers in America, and what better time to dig into it? See everything the Beast has to say about National Burger Month cy clicking on his link here:
I shared some of my all-time favorite burgers – and cooking methods like that – over at my “all food all the time site”…see smash burgers, grilled onion burgers, LA’s messiest burger and a Tokyo Burger Tower as well by clicking here!
Back to “National Burger Month”: here in New York, there is a restaurant that celebrates the burger allayer long:

“Hamburger America” is George Motz’s ultimate burger fantasy: the Author of the “Hamburger America” book and Host of the “Hamburger America” TV series now makes them in his own restaurant…here he is making one for me!
Every single month, Motz highlights another regional burger from across the country…click here to see just one of the wild burgers I tried:
In the western part of the US, there is a hamburger stand that has a cult-like devotion:

Behold The Double Double!”
The legendary hamburger chain In-N-Out has a fanatical fan base, and is only in a few western states…see their secret menu and my “double double” review here!
And Taylor’s Refresher from Napa Valley would also like to weigh in – this legendary burger joint offers up some amazing food as well:

Here is my review of Napa’s legendary hamburger stand, as well as the story behind their epic burger battle:

After our trip to the coast yesterday, we ate out later in a family pub in our local town. I had the ‘Cowboy Burger’; two burger patties in a brioche bun, with bacon and cheese, onion rings, skin-on fries, and burger relish dip. It was really tasty, and good value for just under £15.
I love burgers, but try to limit how many I eat over the course of a year.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, that sounds terrific! I don’t have more than one every few weeks at most…and not into the massive burgers either…I eat mostly baked fish and veggies, so it’s a fun treat…and yours sounds GREAT! Cheers to a great weekend!

great review and I liked the video – although that beef patty would not have been enough for me…. I sometimes skip the bun and extras and have two patties – but the fries looked good

I will say that the double burger at Hamburger Am Erica is much more satisfying…I always start with the “entry” burger to see what their foundation is…it tasted good but I will upgrade on the next go round…thanks for commenting!

I don’t mind veggie burgers, but not too keen on the texture or taste of the other ones.
