The Battle Between Daryl Hall And John Oates!
Such sad news for fans of Daryl Hall and John Oates – they are at war with each other!
Stories broke recently saying that Daryl Hall filed a restraining order against his partner – and now details are emerging about the reason why!
According to the Associated Press:
“part of the case has been unsealed by a Tennessee judge who previously ordered all details to be kept under wraps. It’s now been revealed that Hall is attempting to block his longtime musical partner from selling his share in their joint venture to Primary Wave Music.”
Yep, it’s about money of course.
After an incredible career together, it was revealed that they had sold a piece of their publishing business to Primary Wave Music years ago, and Hall claims that Oates is planning to sell the rest of his piece of their joint venture!
According to the AP report:
“what it is that Hall can’t go for is Oates’ desire to sell his share of the duo’s Whole Oats Enterprises to the investment firm, which already purchased a “significant” stake in their catalog rights 16 years ago. Hall has indicated that he regrets not owning all his publishing.”
This picture could signify the wedge between them…the story goes on to note:
“Chancellor Russell Perkins agreed to block Oates from making the sale for now, in response to the contention from Hall’s lawyers that such action appeared imminent, due to Oates’ team having signed a letter of intent with Primary Wave. The next court hearing has been set for Nov. 30. “
Such sad news to read that they are so estranged…Daryl has been touring without John now for over a year, performing his solo songs as well as Hall & Oates classics….speaking of which, here they are live in 2017 in Los Angeles – enjoy!
I shared that video along with several others as well, as I looked at some of their best album tracks…click here to see more videos of them together:
Since we are entering holiday season, I want to share their terrific Christmas album – which was the last music they created together:
It’s a great holiday album, and here are some of the videos from it – along with their classic “Jingle Bell Rock” video too!
I have also shared a look at some other great songs like this:
Yes, “When The Morning Comes” is a great song from “Abandoned Luncheonette” – click here to see more of their great album cuts:
I also took a look at album openers, the first cut on some of their best albums like this one:

That’s a shame.

I’ve been following this sad story. I suspect that years later they will regret that it came to this.

Yes it’s a real shame but Daryl Hall has been on an anti-John crusade publicly for several years now and it’s sad…he sounds very bitter.

Sad to hear this. They seemed such a cohesive team.

Since they both came from the Southeastern PA/Philly area, I’ve always followed them. I was really surprised by Hall’s interview on Bill Maher last year. Seemed so petty over stupid stuff. Of course, he was your “partner.” (Maybe not now, but back in the day.) I guess the restraining order is just a natural progression. Kind of sad that it all comes down to $$$. Not a good look for either of them. Ugh.

Agree with all you said…Daryl went on Howard Stern years ago complaining bitterly that people like the H&O stuff more than his solo records…which never sell very well even though they are good…they lack the “magic” of the duo!

Sounds like he’s forgotten what made him a star and what made people love the music 🎵

terribly sad after all of their music and history together

Yes, but Hall has been very negative toward John for several years…perhaps due to the Memoir Oates wrote where he took credit for some songs everyone assume Daryl wrote…Hall is very petty that way
