Is An Oscar Tsunami On The Way? An “Everything Everywhere” Victory Could Be “All At Once!”

Everything Everywhere All at Once Is The Undeniable Oscars Front-runner!”

This headline from Vulture.com says it all: after a weekend in which it won every major award, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” is lined up to be the Best Picture of 2022.

Here is the cast winning the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night – with 4 of the cast members nominated for acting awards at the Oscars as well…

This comes one night after winning the Best Picture Award from the Producers Guild Of America…

The website Vulture summed it up beautifully – this is from their website today:

“With less than two weeks to go before the Oscars ceremony, the A24 multiverse comedy made a huge demonstration of strength over the weekend, first winning the top honor at Saturday’s Producers Guild Awards, then sweeping Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Each of these individually would be a plumb prize for any awards hopeful: PGA because it uses the same preferential ballot the Oscars do; SAG because it represents actors, the Academy’s largest branch. Throw in the Daniels’ trophy for feature directing at last weekend’s Directors Guild of America Awards and EEAAO has taken home the triple crown of industry precursors. That’s a haul only the heaviest of Oscars hitters obtain — in the era of the preferential ballot, just BirdmanArgo, and The King’s Speech have done it. It’s the kind of thing that makes you ask not whether a film can win Best Picture but how many other trophies it’ll nab along the way.”

This wildly entertaining film was not only a box office hit, but also the most awarded film of 2022 so far, from these guilds as well as critics organizations around the country.

And Vulture has this statistic:

“Only one film, Apollo 13, has ever lost Best Picture after winning DGA, PGA, and SAG.”

Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian Actress to win the Screen Actors Guild Best Actress Award – and Jamie Lee Curtis was a surprise winner that night as well:

Ke Huy Quan was also awarded Best Supporting Actor for the film.

Quan became the first Asian male to win a supporting actor award in the film category as well.

If you haven’t seen the film, it’s wildly creative and entertaining – plus it has an emotional heft that resonates…see the trailer and more here:

  3. I haven’t see EEAAO yet, but intend to. To be honest, I lost interest in the Oscars (and other film awards) a very long time ago. The same old speeches, the overblown emotions and sentimentality, it all got too much. As much as I love films, I cannot remember when I last watched any award ceremony.
    Best wishes, Pete.
