70’s Wacky Animal Horror For Halloween! Frogs! Piranha! Zombeavers Too!

These “Frogs” Croak Back!

First of all, bravo the mad genius who came up with this masterpiece of a cult movie poster! Classic!

It’s one of my favorite movie posters ever – and it’s from a wacky genre of 70’s cult film where nature fights back!

Also, I want to thank my Facebook friend who shared this vintage newspaper ad:

This helped me remember some of the great “evil animal” films of the 70’s, like “Piranha!”

Get one of the special edition blu-rays of this one – it’s a blast!

In this 1978 gem, directed by Joe Dante, when flesh-eating piranhas are accidentally released into a summer resort’s rivers, the guests become their next meal!

Here is the trailer:

Roger Corman was the master of cult cinema of that era – like this one as well:

Although released in 1980, “Humanoids From The Deep” is a pure 70’s and a real blast as well!

Check out the trailer:

I once described a film as “cheesy” and someone was offended – until I pointed out I meant it as the ultimate compliment! While these aren’t technically animals, they are close enough!

And let’s not forget these furry new friends of Ernest Borgnine:

Before you denigrate “Willard”, remember it’s sequel spawned an Oscar nominated theme song by Michael Jackson!

Click here for the trailers and Michael’s Oscar-performance!

Also from the 70’s is this great “killer spider” film:

“Kingdom Of The Spiders!”

In rural Arizona, countless killer tarantulas are migrating through a farm town, killing every living thing in their path.

Here’s the trailer:

Look who’s fighting the spiders for us: William Shatner!

And while we are looking all all kinds of 70’s animal horror, credit to the creative team who came up with this idea a few years ago:

“Zombeavers!”

Yes, it’s a great title for a “killer beaver” film, and you can see the trailer and more here:

  1. Humanoids From The Deep is kinda nasty but I liked it. Love Piranha and Frogs! Day of the Animals is also fun. 🙂

  2. I am quite a fan of frogs and spiders, John, so I won’t watch these movies, or The Birds either. I remember a film, The Raft, based on a story by Stephen King, that scarred the living daylights out of me. Your Zombeaver picture reminds me of that film.

  3. I was going to mention the killer sheep in Black Sheep, but you added that one at the end. How about this though? Killer rabbits! Check out the well-known stars in the cast. 🙂
I feel sure you must have covered it before though, John.

    Best wishes, Pete.
