It’s safe to say that The White House is one of the world’s “most selfied” buildings…and I am guilty as charged, but there are many other iconic buildings you can capture yourself in front of as well!
Here is the “currently begin refurbished” Capital building, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial…
One goofball standing next to me said “I thought it would be bigger!” Um, it looks plenty big enough to me…
All of these are inspiring to see up close, but some of the city’s most memorable sights take place indoors…

I had no idea Julia Child’s kitchen is in the Smithsonian! That makes me happy, like knowing Mr. Rogers sweater is there, too. True Americana. The first time I visited the Air and Space Museum was right after the astronauts had landed on the moon. The moon rock was there, and people could touch it. It looked like a lump of coal and was much bigger than a golf ball. Very cool. Fast forward 50 years. I went there with my children and grandchildren, and I couldn’t wait to show them the moon rock. Shock! Allowing people to touch it for 50 years turned the moon rock into a thin sliver. I now have great appreciation and respect for not touching. Great post, John. The Smithsonian is a treasure.
