The $90,000 Instagram Post!
Remember this social media post from Kendall Jenner? Well, after being paid $275,000 to share it, she has now agreed to pay $90k for doing so!
the 24-year-old Jenner has agreed to pay a $90,000 settlement for that 2017 Instagram post about the failed Fyre Festival. but she’s not alone.
The model was among a slew of celebrities who were sued in August 2019 by a bankruptcy trustee looking to get back some of the money lost by the festival’s investors.
Remember how a group of Models went to the Bahamas to tout the first “Fyre Festival”, an exclusive new music festival was was promoted heavily – but when attendees arrived, they found scattered tents and these sandwiches!
All of the music Artists who were promoted didn’t show up as the money dried up and preparations for the event didn’t happen.
The festival’s founder, Billy McFarland is currently serving six years in jail after pleading guilty to wire fraud in March 2018.
He has also been ordered by the court to repay more than $26 million in restitution to those who were defrauded.
The festival was set to take place over two weekends on an island in the Bahamas and was touted as ‘the cultural experience of the decade’. A terrific Netflix documentary tells the entire story of how the event went bust.
The Fyre Festival was promoted by McFarland and rapper Ja Rule but went disastrously wrong as the island itself didn’t have the infrastructure to support the partygoers, who were stranded with nowhere to sleep and barely anything to eat.
I posted a story about the documentary, and you can click here to see the trailer:

Moral of the story, think twice about investing money in an enterprise or event initiated by an “adult” who still calls himself Billy.

And it is a documentary fully worth watching. So many cautionary tales to be told.

I have come to realise again, with this coronavirus story, that people are generally very gullible when it comes to social media, John. They believe everything they read on FB, twitter and Instagram even when it obviously makes no sense.

Thanks for commenting – it was. HULU had one as well that was also good, a slightly different take on it and they had a non-illuminating interview with McFarland…I watched and enjoyed both!
