Beverly Hills…An Eerie 90210 Silence As “Shelter At Home” Is The New Normal…

Welcome To Beverly Hills 90210!

Yes, there is a strange “new normal” in Beverly Hills – just like the rest of the world right now, as we “shelter in place” and fight back against the coronavirus.

For those who haven’t heard, the state of California has instituted a “shelter in place” order, keeping most of us in our homes except to shop for necessities.

I know that, by working together, we will all persevere against this pandemic – there are already positive signs of vaccines that may work – check out this bit of positive news here:

During this unprecedented battle, most are staying home as required, so when I went down to Beverly Hills to shop for some supplies, it was strangely quiet:

On regular days, you would see thousands of tourists on Rodeo Drive, home to the world’s most exclusive stores…but now it’s a virtual ghost town, and on one corner, someone took a bit of street art and made it topical for our times:

The famous Beverly Hills sign at a small park is normally packed with people, but not today…

Just north of the business district is Bedford Drive, one of the most photographed streets in Southern California thanks to the palm tree-lined backdrop for many impromptu photo ops!

The Beverly Hills Hotel – AKA Hotel California!

Further north is Sunset Boulevard, and The Beverly Hills Hotel. It’s strange to see The “Hotel California” so quiet right now…yes, this is the Hotel on the cover of that legendary album by The Eagles –

I drove by it every day, but with the “social distancing” I asked “Alexa” to play me the album instead…here’s a look at the album with lots of videos:

  6. It is eerie, yet wonderful to see. Good things come from bad times like these. Just think that the canals in Venice are becoming clear and fish are returning. Wonderful photos, John!

  7. Surreal images John, who would have thought we’d ever see scenes like these. I keep thinking I’m going to wake up one day and find all this has been a bad dream.

    • It’s our “new normal” for awhile, isn’t it? I feel confident by, by staying in place for as much as possible, they will be able to get a handle on the outbreak and move forward on a cure – thanks for commenting, be safe!

  8. That certainly is quite. Even quieter than my local market town, John. It must make you feel like The Omega Man!

  10. I’m curious: how did you decide to go out to pick up supplies vs order in?

    • Great question: totally based on how the restaurant is operating. Also, I run ALL errands at once, and that was 3 days ago, so not often…but I am ordering from a restaurant to pick up while out. ALL of them are packing everything and leaving to you pick it up from the counter. Then, once home and unpacked, I wash my hands with soap and water before and after unpacking!
