See These Edible Mayonnaise Slices! “What The Friday?!?!” Has “Sheet-Like” Condiments In A Slice! Chocolate Slices Too!

Ready For A Slice Of Mayo?

It’s Friday as I post this, and “What The Friday?!?!??!” indeed! Yes, a company is selling Mayonnaise by the slice!

My friend Lamya Shelly tagged me on a story about this so I put on my “Investigative Journalist” hat and found the origin on this story!

Of course, it was from my favorite website SoraNews24.com, where I get so many of my wild Asian food stories!

Here’s how this madness began: the Japanese company Bourbon – who specializes in Chocolate NOT Bourbon – released a unique product several years ago: “sheet-like chocolate ganache” – yes, they are “slices” of chocolate!

With the success of their “chocolate slices”, the company had a bold new idea:

Mayonnaise By The Slice!

As SoraNews24 reports:

Bourbon is now introducing two new “sheet-like condiments” to its Kantan Cooking (“Simple Cooking”) lineup. One is a tuna mayonnaise sheet, and the other has the flavor of mayonnaise and mentaiko (spicy cod roe, which blends with mayo for a creamy, piquant flavor).

Well, that actually sounds good!

It’s A “Sheet-Like” Condiment!

Yep, that’s how they describe this unique mayonnaise!

The company is on a roll, as they are also releasing an “apple butter white chocolate slice” as well!

These incredible “condiment slices” will go on sale March 2, and SoraNews24 adds:

“The mayo slices priced at 200 yen (US$1.80) and the sweet ones 250 yen. Oddly enough, the per-slice price works out to exactly the same, since the mayo packs contain four slices and the sweet ones five, but it’s hard to argue with Bourbon’s logic of “Look, we know you’re going to want more chocolate, so we went ahead and put one more in there.”

Thanks to Lamya for sending me this story, and for SoraNews24 for their ongoing terrific coverage of everything Asia. Here’s their entire story:

Remember, “sliced condiments” are nothing new: I had this “Ketchup Leather” a few years back on a burger:

This burger was terrific – you can click here to see how they make their “ketchup leather”:

    • I agree! As I note in my story, I had “Ketchup leather” on a burger, and it’s pretty much the same – it’s really just how you package something…except of course for turning something creamy into a solid! Thanks for commenting!

  9. I’m not a fan of mayonnaise, but I think those slices are a great idea. A lot less mess than squeezing from a bottle or spooning from a jar. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  10. At least I am no longer shocked sometimes just perplexed as to why and I know its because they can…I suppose a sheet of something could go in a burger or a sandwich…I could also say whatever next but I know it will be something…I always look forward to these posts and do wonder whatever next…haha…Have a great weekend!
