Talk About A “Hot Property”!
A hillside home high above the Sunset Strip is LA’s latest “hot property!”
This house is a place of Hollywood Royalty! It’s been owned by Judy Garland and Sammy Davis Jr, and it’s for sale again – just $6.129 million!
Talk about a pedigree! I found this listing thanks to a terrific newsletter about realty for the stars.
“Hot Property” is the name of a weekly email newsletter written by Neil Leitereg for the Los Angeles Times.
Every Saturday morning, you get great stories like this one about the Liza Minelli house!
Todd Goodman took these photos, which accompany the LA Time story. Leitereg goes on to add:
“Garland and Minnelli lived at the house in the mid-1940s with daughter Liza Minnelli. It was later owned by television actor and comedian Wally Cox, who sold it in 1955 to Rat Pack entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. During Davis’ stay, musical acts such as the Band lived and recorded on the property.”
Here’s another terrific photo by Goodman:
The house was built in 1941 – it’s been updated throughout the years but there are still cool touches of Hollywood royalty: for example, the downstairs living room is next to what was once Liza Minnelli’s bedroom.
Leitereg adds:
“The room has a hidden door behind the bookcases that leads to the original master bedroom, which has a dressing area and walk-in closet. The dressing room retains its original mirrors.”
That’s right, a secret door to Liza Minelli’s bedroom!
So there you go, a chance to, as Kramer once famously said: “watch the sun come up over Liza’s place!”

I wonder how close it is to this place:
This is the legendary Hollywood Hightower, still being lived in, and used in a number of classic films – check it out here:

Two amazing singers, John. I loved Judy in Wizard of Oz and Liza in Cabaret. An interesting house.

It looks awesome! The walls must sing at night. So John, have you lived in Hollywood your whole life? If you could choose the Garland/Jr. home or live on some shore in Europe, which would you choose?

I grew up in Seattle but have always loved entertainment so the Garland house would win that battle – but I’d rent it out for the summer to movie fans and use the cash to go on a European adventure!

I think I could be happy there, channeling Judy’s ghost, and admiring the view. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, I love soaking in Hollywood’s history…I am friends with Alison Martino, whose dad was “Johnny Fontaine” from “The Godfather” – the terrific singer Al Martino…I’ve shared his story before but she knows EVERYONE in Hollywood so I asked her if she’s ever been to this house!

It sure is! Those houses up in the Hollywood Hills are crammed together, but the view of the LA basin to the south are incredible!
