Welcome To Your New Home – In Molise!
This seems to be a trend – beautiful but underpopulated regions around the world are offering $$$ to move there!
The Guardian has the latest example: an underpopulated region in southern Italy is offering newcomers €700 per month for three years to live in one of its villages!
Molise is a gorgeous area on the Adriatic Sea, situated next to the more well known area of Abruzzi – and they want you to live there!
There a number of small towns in the region that are making this offer.
As The Guardian reports:
There are a few catches, however: the village must have fewer than 2,000 residents, and the newcomer must pledge to open a business.
“If we had offered funding, it would have been yet another charity gesture,” Donato Toma, the president of Molise, told the Guardian. “We wanted to do more; we wanted people to invest here. They can open any sort of activity: a bread shop, a stationery shop, a restaurant, anything. It’s a way to breathe life into our towns while also increasing the population.”
Oh, and it’s only 400 miles south of Venice, so imagine popping up there on weekends to see this!
Yes, less than six hours away from one of the most spectacularly beautiful cities in the world!
Here is my “Six Shot Saturday” – 6 reasons to embrace Venice Italy:
So why is the region so eager for new residents? The Guardian explains:
According to the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat), Molise, with a population of 305,000, is among the regions that has lost more inhabitants in recent years – in excess of 9,000 have left since 2014.
The statistics are sobering:
In 2018, more than 2,800 inhabitants died or moved to another area, almost 1,000 more than the previous year. Not a single birth was registered in nine of its towns.
So, if you want to start a business and get paid to do so, consider this gorgeous region – here’s the entire story at “the guardian.com”:

As I said, this is a trend – recently I told you that an area outside Paris was doing the same thing:
This idyllic region is just a few hours from Paris – click here to see how much they will pay you to move there!

I know there was something like this offered in France fairly recently. If I spoke either language I swear I’d be tempted.

Bed and breakfast… I wonder if a tax break would be better incentive.

How interesting, John. Young people don’t like the rural life, they want bright lights.

It seems to be happening in a number of places, an attempt to stop the exodus of young people and keep these small villages alive…thanks for commenting, I appreciate it!

If I had an interesting job, I would not mind moving to a small village at some point.

First France, now Italy. Where do I sign? 🙂
Hang on…I forgot about Brexit…
Best wishes, Pete.

HA! Pete, we have the same problem here: small rural towns are going to become “ghost towns” as no young people want to stay…hard to fight against but they are at least trying…

I could see myself pottering around in an Italian hill town. Good food, nice wine, and a small Fiat car.
(I might have to learn some more Italian though)
But the exchange rate will collapse after Brexit, so I would end up poor. 🙂
