Want To Live Here? Want To Make $5,000?
That’s right, a beautiful area in France wants you to live there – so much so they are willing to pay you to do it!
France’s Gorgeous Aisne Region!
As you can see from this map, which The Daily Mail published, the region isn’t that far from Paris, and the pictures they shared of that region shows a gorgeous countryside…
As The Daily Mail reports:
“Prospective home owners seeking a property in one historical French region can expect to be paid ā¬5,000 for their relocation.
Buyers looking to purchase a home in Aisne which lies in the Hauts-de-France region of the country, formerly known as Picardie, will be offered the large sum of money for every property they buy.
It is hoped the scheme, which was created by 40 municipalities in Aisne, will breathe a new lease of life to the now sparsely populated area and help rejuvenate the area’s old buildings.”
There are just a few caveats, by the way – the biggest one being that you are going to actually have to live there!
Still, if beautiful estates like this are for sale, it’s worth considering! The Daily Mail goes on to report:
Buyers will also need to make sure that the home they seek to purchase has been on sale for at least three years and also confirm that they will remain in the property for at least five years.
If the prospective owner chooses to leave the house before the five years is over then they must pay back ā¬1,000 for every year that the house remains unoccupied.
President of the communes for Pays de la Serre, Pierre-Jean Verzelen, told Le Parisien: ‘We have carried out a study that has led us to the conclusion that many of these houses have been empty for a long time.’

It reminded me of a recent post I shared with some other ideas for “getting away from it all”:
Yes, how about an island paradise? You can buy one, and here they are, take a look:
Let me know if you are considering a move to France!

I will hope that this particular area will not have any haunted houses, for which people might have been avoiding living there for longer periods. If you have to earn 5000 bucks to get yourself spooked in a ghostly French village, I think some prior exploration will be better. But anyways, unique concept, and nice post with lovely photos to share the same, John š

I like this idea as I have been thinking of relocating to France for the past several years. However, being the capitalist that I am I wonder if they will pay you 5,000 to relocate there, might I become the true Ugly American and become so obnoxious that they’d pay 100,000 for me to leave?

I like that you already have an “exit strategy” in place! I love the idea of this type of adventure, not sure I’d commit until I really got a sense of life there!

They don’t speak English in rural France, John, so that is a bit of a problem for me as I can only ask the way to the toilet in French. It does look pretty but I am a city slicker.

What interests me about this is that there are areas of France that are beautiful and inexpensive…certainly worth a look!

Anywhere near Euro Disney would be popular in my house! We are thinking of France for summer this year as a holiday.

Clever co-worker! Enjoy lovely Paris. You will also see how Notre Dame is now which is awfully sad but at least part of it is salvageable.

With some sort of Brexit on the horizon, it seems that this offer it too little, too late. At least for us English.
Mind you, 5000 Euro doesn’t go far in 2019… š
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, my wife and I enjoy the show “Escape To The Continent” on Netflix here, and it’s always interesting to see couples relocating to France/Germany/Spain etc. Always due to the extremely high cost of living in England versus some of these more rural areas in Europe…is that the case?

Housing is much, much cheaper, especially in France and Spain. Most living costs are less too, but you do have to factor in some additional health insurance, and allow for exchange rate fluctuations. However, a ‘full’ Brexit might kill that ex-pat market stone dead. š
